"Place your foot farther back!"
"With more gusto, add strength to the kick!"
"Watch your back; you never know when someone will come behind you."
These were all things shouted at me as I trained in the meadow. My movements were almost perfect due to years of training, but the avatar always seemed to have some sort of critique for me.
Of course it made sense, she was the strongest avatar to ever walk our world and I was the first human and non bender to have a connection to the spirit world. She is training me to keep the spirit world in check because the Avatar's main focus is the mortal world
I continued moving my feet, swiping at opponents that weren't even there. I smiled at the thought that if someone were to see me I would look like I was in some elaborate one person dance.
"Enough for today," Kyoshi said once I had finished my sequence. I was breathing heavily and wiped at the sweat forming on my forehead.
"Thank you Avatar Kyoshi," I said while bowing to her, "I will see you tomorrow."
"Good day," she bade me as I faded back into the world of the living, the colors returning to the island scenery around me.
I ran back to the village, after 13 years of running back and forth from the village to the meadow, I know the path like the back of my hand. I no longer needed Avatar Kyoshi's help finding my way back.
I ran all the way to the Kyoshi Warrior training house. I quietly snuck in so as to not disturb the other warriors.
"We know you're Amara." a voice said.
"Good morning Suki." I greeted her.
"Another training day with Kyoshi?" She asked.
"Yeah," I answered, smirking, "she was tough today."
"Is she ever not?" Suki asked while smiling. We both laughed knowing very well the deceased woman's reputation for being a strict teacher.
I walked over to the training area, ready to start helping Suki with leading the exercise.
The warriors and I got in positions. Soon we were doing our exercises in perfect unison. Each fan was an extension of our arms, and our boots helped us balance.
We started slow, with deliberate movements. We bought our arms around our bodies, slowly guiding the fan in the motions we would use in battle. Soon we started picking up the pace, The well rehearsed moves second nature to us.
As soon as we had all reached a good pace Suki and I stopped the movements to examine the other's form. We walked around the room observing the others, like how Kyoshi would watch me.
Our practice was interrupted though when we were rudely interrupted.
"Girls!" the mayor barged in shouting, "Spies! Seen on the beach! Come quickly!"
The warriors and I rushed out of the training home and toward the beach. We hid behind trees, rocks, and bushes. Suki and I were the closest, hiding behind a giant rock. She nudged me and pointed toward a few people. I look onward to see three people.
A girl, with dark skin, blue eyes, and a blue coat and -in my opinion- gorgeous hair. A boy, who looked very much like the girl with his boomerang. A small lemur. Finally, I saw a young boy who looked like the monks from the air temples Kyoshi used to tell me about.
I looked over to Suki and she nodded at me. She turned around and signaled the other warriors. We slowly crept toward them. We climbed up the trees and waited. The older boy was getting up from being hit. I looked over at Suki who gave the signal.
