I looked around hurriedly, looking for Aang. The young monk was nowhere to be seen. I panicked, running around the flat grassy area I was in. The field was nothing like the one back on the island, which was overgrown and surrounded by a forest.
This field was pure grass, stretching for as far as I could see. There wasn't a tree in sight.
Which meant there was nothing Aang could hide behind.
"He's fine," a voice said. I whipped around to see Kyoshi standing behind me, though she hadn't been there I second ago. A wave of relief washed over me when I saw her, glad that someone I could trust was here.
"Kyoshi," I breathed in relief, "it's so good to see you."
She said nothing in return, just continued to watch me with her seemingly unblinking stare. I looked back around at the landscape, realizing how odd it was here.
"Why am I here, ma'am?" I asked, growing worried as I realized something was off, "I need to help Aang defeat the fire nation by helping him reach Avatar Roku.
"The avatar must travel on his own now, you have a more special purpose," she hissed. I wrinkled my forehead at the tone of her voice, Kyoshi barely ever spoke like that.
I met her piercing green gaze, which bore straight into my soul. We stood like that for a moment, our eye contact never breaking. Until I saw something-
A flash of gold in her eyes.
I stumbled backwards in fear, but when I looked back at her the same green eyes looked back at me.
"Your not Kyoshi," I said when the realization hit me. It all made sense now.
The reason I hadn't sensed her presence. Whatever place we were in. Her odd nature.
'But who was this?'
"Oh dear," it started in a sultry voice that sounded nothing like Kyoshi's, "you are a smart girl aren't you?"
I felt fear bloom in my chest as it's features started to morph from Kyoshi's distinct one's. The fear grasped at my throat as the tall warrior shaped into a young woman with pale skin and dark hair. She had tattoos decorating her face that lead to her bright golden eyes.
Why did my terrorizers always have golden eyes?
"Who are you?" I tried to command confidently, but my voice betrayed me. She smirked at the terror that was evident in my words.
"You mean you don't know me?" she asked in a sickly sweet voice that chilled me to the bone.
I couldn't say anything so I just rapidly shook my head. She walked up to me, frowning slightly. Her eyes raked up and down my body as she circled around me.
"I'll tell you my name, but only if you say please," she whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine. She placed a hand on my wrist and lightly stroked up my arm before releasing me.
"Please," I choked out.
"Please what?" she teased, smirking at me in a knowing way. She was playing me. She was a predator and I was her prey.
Something about that excited me though.
"Please tell me your name," I asked, my voice barely above a whisper as I watched her smirk grow wider.
"Well since you asked nicely, I'll tell you." she gently grabbed my chin and tipped it up to look into her glowing gold eyes.
"My name is Astara Kusse."
