|POV Logan|
I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to believe it. Was Virgil... really gone? Is that what he meant by 'erase himself'?
I could feel all these unfamiliar emotions begin to overwhelm me slowly but surely, numbing me down to my centre & causing my breathing to pick up at a strange rate. What was happening to me...? The last thing I remember focusing on was passing Roman the letter for him to read himself and after that it all merged into a blur. As I struggled to regain my sense of focus, my surroundings were different to what I remembered previously. Roman was no longer stood in front of me and Patton seemed to be sat my my side with his hand placed on my back, moving his thumb in a circular motion to provide me with a sense of comfort and familiarity, it was something Patton always did whenever any of us were stressed.
"He... he can't be gone, Patton," I murmured weakly, hesitantly glancing over to meet eyes with his. I begun to jitter my hand slightly, nerve taking over while my mind simultaneously refused to accept the reality that might be real right now.
"Logan, I'm sure he's perfectly fine... h-he has to be, we just don't know where he is. B-but we'll find him , I know we w-will," Patton tried to reassure me. Really, it only ended up working for a minute before my logical thinking started to kick in and I found myself overthinking countless scenarios.
'We have n-no way to confirm that h-he's okay though," I felt my voice grow quieter and quieter, aware that I was beginning to fall back into my thoughts, "It's been t-three days since was last saw him... we may be too l-late..."
"Logan-"
"No... he's not gone!" I contradicted myself as felt my temper begin to rise & I stood up from the place I was sat on Virgils bed, "He's got to be around the mindscape somewhere. If he's not here then... t-then I need to find him. We may s-still have time." In all honesty, I didn't even have much faith myself in what I was saying, but in the moment I was so absorbed in denial that I just couldn't let myself take time to accept the facts and use them to plan out a logical plan forward. Just when I was about to exit Virgils room to start my search for him, something seemed to be blocking my way, or should I say someone.
Before I even had the chance to walk out, Janus came stumbling into the room with Roman behind him, katana in hand and harsh glare on his face. From what I could tell, Roman had pushed Janus into the room, instead of Janus entering by his own will.
"Roman-? What's happening?" I heard Patton ask from behind me, concern laced his tone.
"This shifty serpent knows more than he's telling us!" Roman declared grandly, pointing his katana towards the deceptive side while Janus glared back with the emotions of one who had been inconvenienced.
"And what makes you say that-? I have no time for it if it's something foolish, I have things that need to be done," I mentioned, taking a step closer to the door incase it turned out to be something trivial that I need not pay attention to.
"He didn't even enter Virgils room at all, he stayed outside the whole time & didn't bother reading the note! So why the hell did I find him on his way to the dark mind palace with the most guilty look on his face I've ever seen! He didn't even know if we had actually found Virgil in the room!"
"Roman," I took a heaved sigh in, "that's not enough proof to mean anything, Janus is always sketchy!"
"But-" Roman tried to retort before Patton of all people interrupted him.
"Janus...." his voice was soft like an adult trying to resolve conflict between children, "you know more than we do about whats happening with Virgil... please... tell us.""Excuse me-? Patton what facts are you basing that accusation off of? Just because him and Virgil bicker a lot doesn't mean that Virgil opened up to him about doing something like this-? If anything, it insinuates the opposite!"
"Logan...I- I know he knows more, Romans right. Plus, Janus was the last person to see Virgil!"
"What-? How do you know that? I thought the last time we saw him was three days ago where us three saw him in the living quarters?" Roman added.
"B-but.. that's not what happened! I know I saw Janus come out of Virgils room two days ago!" Patton ended up confessing, shocking me and the fanciful trait, "it was late in the afternoon a-and I was going to my room but I ended up seeing Janus come out of Virgils room! He was... smiling... so I assumed they didn't have a huge argument this time and hoped they maybe started to figure things out with eachother... I didn't see any immediate concern so I just told myself I'd check on Virge later... b-but I completely forgot," stifled sobs began to escape Pattons throat, "I didn't t-think an-anything like th-this would happen."
Silence sunk into the atmosphere as I found my hateful gaze land upon Janus, "is that true..?"
Instead of providing an answer, Deceit just kept his gaze locked on the floor."Answer him! Did you visit Virgil!" Roman raised his voice in a demanding way and pointed the blade of his sword closer to Janus.
For a second, Janus almost looked empty behind the eyes due to being confronted by all three of us at once.
"You want the truth...?" He asked slyly, minimal emotion spoke with his words ."Of course we want the truth! Take your gloves off so we know you're being honest!" Roman demanded, slowly loosing his patience. A little fact we had recently learned is that Janus is physically unable to lie without his gloves on. Strange, if you ask me, but it was a simple way to get the truth out of him nevertheless.
"I... alright..." he spoke with defeat, pulling his bright yellow gloves off of his fingers to reveal a few scales that littered the back of his hands, "what happened between me and Virgil..."
