"Are you coming or not?!"
"Yes! Oh my goodness!" Wooyoung shouted through the open window. He shook his head and finished tugging on his worn boots. "So impatient." He muttered to himself.
But even so, he couldn't help the smile that crossed his face.
Today was a very big day.
Once he was dressed, Wooyoung hurried out the front door and paused for a moment to rub Nova behind her ears.
She let out a deep meow in greeting and stretched on the railing she had been lounging on. When done, she sat up and blinked at Wooyoung a couple of times before she started to groom herself.
Wooyoung just chuckled in response. "See you later girl." He called as he hurried to the barn.
Inside, the most magical sound drifted to his ears.
"Daddy! I want to ride!"
"I know Sweetie, but we need to do a few things first." Jongho's voice came from one of the stalls. He stepped out, leading a small, fluffy, black and white pony. Her blonde colored mane was long, falling over her eyes, and her tail swished back and forth rapidly.
Next to the pony, shuffling in place with her faded pink jeans tucked into her pink boots, was a little girl with strawberry blonde ringlets bouncing around her freckled face. "Please! What do I need to do Daddy?!"
Wooyoung leaned against an empty stall and watched as Jongho tied the pony's lead rope to a ring on the wall, then crouched down in front of the little girl. "Well, JuJu, we need to brush her down first and clean out her hooves. Do you remember how to do that?"
"Yes!" The little girl hurried over to the wall and pulled down a brush that was hanging at her level. "Checkers, it's time to look pretty!" She giggled and started running it over the pony's back, who snorted in pleasure.
"What are you two up to?" Wooyoung asked, finally announcing his presence.
"Dada! I'm going to go for a ride on Checkers!" The little girl beamed up at Wooyoung and kept working.
Jongho chuckled and rubbed the back of her head.
Wooyoung watched his family and felt his heart grow even more, as it did every day. He and Jongho had been married for four years now, and were getting ready to celebrate their fifth anniversary in just a few weeks. After two years, Wooyoung had tossed around the idea of starting a family together and Jongho had been so excited about it that night he had a list of adoption agencies that they could go through to get the process started.
It took some time, they both wanted to try and adopt an infant if possible, so they tried to be a little picky in their selection.
But one day Wooyoung came across the picture of a two year old girl and instantly knew she was the one.
Jubilee had been put up for adoption when her parents had decided they couldn't take care of her anymore. Wooyoung suspected it was because they were foreigners and wanted to keep traveling around the world without a kid weighing them down, but they just so happened to be in the city and came across the orphanage.
She was found abandoned, crying, on the doorstep, when she was just over a year old.
The agency they found her in thought that the reason she was never adopted was because of her looks. She was very obviously from overseas, but it was hard to say whether she was from America or from Europe. The thing that had captured Wooyoung's attention, though, was the twinkle in her emerald green eyes in the photo. Someone must have done something to make her laugh right before they took the picture because her smile had taken his breath away.
