nami and her team rested under a tree with naruto tied up to a tree trunk in the heat.

"i have decided to not send you back to the academy... but to completely take you out the ninja system."
kakashi said as he looked down at his students.
"what do you think this exercise was for?"

a lightbulb turned on in nami's young brain.
"teamwork."

"that's right, but that was far from what you did."
kakashi said once again.
"i'll give you your lunch and you're all going to try the test again after lunch. whatever you do, don't feed naruto."

kakashi felt pity while looking at them, which was odd.
he saw minato in nami and obito in naruto. immediately, he handed them their bento and left as he didn't want to be reminded of those horrid memories.

the three youngsters were eating their bentos, but they were soon distracted by naruto's whining.

"you should've done better, dobe,"
sasuke said under his breath.

"boke naruto boke,"
nami looked at the boy in front of her and raised to her feed. she ug her chopsticks to naruto's mouth and began feeding him.

"nami, what are you doing?"
sakura asked. sakura knew now to break the rules but she understood.
they were a team.

"what are the three of you doing?"
a deep voice came from behind them. it was none other than kakashi.

"sensei, fail me but not the others."
nami spoke. the girl approached the man who was crouched down.she began walking up to him and came close to him, too close. she then locked eyes with him and tried to gain the dominance in the situation.
"we're a team, right? what comrades would we be if we wouldn't help a friend who's in trouble?"

"you..."
kakashi stood up and looked at sasuke and sakura, then at naruto and back down at nami.
"you all pass,"

"eh?!"

"In the ninja world, those who don't follow the rules are scums. But, those who abandon their friends are even worse than scums."
kakashi said as he quoted a good old pal of his. he patted nami's head, feeling her soft hair.

nami grabbed her kunai and ran towards naruto. she cut the rope and let the boy fall to his feet. a large smile was on his face, which was very contagious. a smile appeared on everyone's faces, even sasuke and kakashi. kakashi smiled as he saw minato's smile in the uzumaki and the namikaze.

the blonde was walking back towards her small apartment, coming from ichiraku ramen. after having a nice proper lunch with naruto, all she needed was some ice cream.

the girl felt a tap on her shoulder. she immediately grabbed the hand behind her and flipped the body forward. she was surprised to see her sensei.

"sensei?"

"nami,"

the girl was confused. why was kakashi following her?
"is there anything you need?"

"i'd like t have a word with you... in private."
kakashi said, putting his smut in his back pocket.

"of course, sensei,"
nami said. she began heading towards her house, where she was originally going.

kakashi followed, but he stayed silent.
the elder man preferred to keep his mouth shut and watch her closely, analyzing her moves. something was off about the girl. kakashi still couldn't believe that minato left her with no demon fox.
it would've been a much easier plan to put half the demon fox in naruto and half in nami and keep both their last names as uzumaki, but that didn't happen. kakashi suspected that the girl had something that naruto didn't, something like a kekkei genkai.
a kekkei genkai no one had.

before he knew it, kakashi found himself in nami's small apartment.
it was small with the bare essentials. the kitchen was small and there was little to no furniture due to the tight budget nami was in.

"what did you want to talk about, sensei?"
her sweet voice interrupted kakashi from his thoughts.

"it's about naruto."
he said, his voice deeper than usual.

"what about him?"

"i see that the two of you are getting along well... i want you to take care of naruto."
the whole phrase completely shocked nami.

"what do you mean?"

"now that team 7 is formed, we'll be going on missions. throughout the years i want you to take care of naruto. always be there for him."

nami smiled and nodded.
"understood, sensei, but may i ask why?"

kakashi sighed.
"you'll know one day, nami."
