I open my wings and glide down to the main floor. I walk into the kitchen and grab a glass of water. Once I finish the glass, I walk into the living room and sit on the couch, watching small flames dance in the fireplace.
I start thinking about the conversation I just had with Evan. He knows the right buttons to make me tick. He's so infuriating! I can't have a simple conversation with him. Then he said I have fire...whatever that means. All I wanted to do was talk with Xavier but instead, I get to be frustrated with Evan again.

"Kara. Kara, wake up."
Huh? I open my eyes. Xavier stood in front of me with a hand on my shoulder. I was laying down on the couch. I guess I fell asleep.
"What are you doing here?" Xavier whispers to me.
I groan and rub my eyes. "I must have fallen asleep here when I came to get a drink of water."
He holds out his hand to help me up. I accept.
"What time is it?" I ask, sleep still making me groggy.
"4:15 in the morning."
"What? Then why are you up?"
"I was about to go for a jog when I found you."
I look at his clothes. He wore a black tank top, basketball shorts, and running shoes. I might add that the tank top was rather tight around his torso, if you know what I mean.
"You didn't have to wake me up. I could have slept there just fine." I say.
"I don't know about that. One of your wings was bent at a very odd angle. I didn't think that was very good for it to be like that much longer."
"Oh...thanks then."
He walks me to the base of the stairs. "Listen, about earlier..." I start but he cuts me off.
"It's okay. I understand." He smiles. I realize how beautiful of a smile he had. It must be amazing to finally talk and smile normally. "You just needed your space. I respect that."
"Thank you." I say sincerely. "Really, that means a lot to me."
Xavier rubs the back of his neck. "I can't imagine what you've been feeling these past few days."
"Yeah...it was pretty hectic. Then what Evan said yesterday, it got me thinking. Why did I trust Levi? I shouldn't have. Then I wouldn't be in this mess."
"Maybe you aren't the type to judge a book by it's cover."
I sigh. "Yeah, but if you look at his pages, you would see all the horrible thing he's done."
"Or not done. Not all devils are as cruel and selfish as you might think. Take Evan for example. He helped us escape. Even before you came here, he still planned on helping us get out of there."
I nod. "I guess you're right. Although, if I had not gotten involved with Levi, I wouldn't be here. I would be at home with my family, worrying about my test I had in history."
"That's in the past. No amount of regret will change it. You have to let it go and accept that you're here with us."
A small smile spreads across my face. "Being here with you guys isn't that bad."
He chuckles.
"I should probably let you go on your run now."
Xavier nods and takes a step backwards, a small smile still on his face.
"Night, Xavier." I say and start to walk up the stairs.
"Goodnight."
