Over the next few days, I refuse to talk to anyone or even leave my room. If I was kidnapped to be here, I was going to act like a prisoner.
My mom came in several times to try to get me to talk again but I held my ground. Leila even came in a couple times but I didn't say a word to her either.
I wanted to go to my real home. I wanted to be with Thia and Xavier and Ty and Evan and Levi and not be stuck here. I wanted to train and hang out with them. I wanted to straighten things out with Evan. I didn't want to be here.
Kamila was the only one to keep me company. I always had her turn back into a bracelet before anyone saw her because I didn't want them to take her. She was mine and only mine.
One thing that was off setting was my step dad never came to see me. I knew he was the one that had me kidnapped off of Earth. The least he could do was explain what the hell is going on. He was the only one I actually wanted to see because he was the only one that had answers for me.
Then he walked in my room and I wasn't so sure I wanted him here anymore.
"Hello Kara." He calmly says, his hand clasped behind his back to show composure.
I just looked at him.
"I'm assuming by now you figured out what's going on."
I shrug.
"Yes, I did have some guards come and pick you up from Earth but it was for your own good."
I suddenly lash out, "Are you kidding me?! You call that 'picking me up'?! That was kidnapping me and forcing me here against my will!"
"It was for your own good. Being around those vigilantes is a bad influence on you. Look what they did to your hair."
"Okay 1. I wanted to do my hair like this and nothing is wrong with it. 2. You don't get to decide what's good for me. And 3. Those vigilantes are my best friends who accept the real me."
"You're nineteen. You don't know who you really are and look what they've done to you! They've been brainwashed into thinking you're one of them!"
I'm nineteen? I've lost track of time. I guess my birthday passed. Focus Kara! "I am one of them! I broke the law! I'm a criminal! I may not know who I am but I know I belong with them. They understand me in a way no one else can."
"You didn't break the law. You were under the devil's influence."
"The hell I was! It was my free will and, guess what, I liked it!"
My step dad's face hardens. "Chose your words carefully, Kara." From behind his back, he reveals my sketch book. No..."You would want this to fall into the wrong hands."
How did he get that?! Was he the one who sent the raiders?!
He opens the book and flips through the pages. I sat there frozen in disbelief as to how he got it.
"I gotta say, you have some real talent. You could have been an artist."
I couldn't say anything. My mouth had gone dry.
"But it would be a shame if one of your friends saw this."
He shows me a page from the book and I make a confused face. It was my drawing of a girl with flaming wings and fire surrounding her. I had drawn it because I wondered what it would be like if my wings could catch on fire as well without being burned but it didn't exactly turn out to be me.
What was weird was there was writing surrounding the girl: "Long live Queen Kara." My eyes widen. I hadn't written that.
He continues to flip through more of my drawings and I couldn't believe my eyes. Someone had vandalized them to make it look like I hated all of my friends and that I was better than them.
