Kara's POV

Evan was here. Why was Evan here? How was my step dad not freaking out that a devil was in our house? He should be able to tell that Evan is a devil because of his aura he can sense.

He wore dorky, black glasses and an awful looking hat. He had his old doctor's coat on and carried his old clipboard. A black bag was slung over his shoulder.

"Would you mind leaving the room? I would like to keep this a private matter until I can give an accurate conclusion." Evan asks my step dad.

My step dad gives him a slightly suspicious look before leaving the room and closes the door behind him.

Evan turns his attention to me. I was in shock. I didn't know what to say. Too many questions swirled around my head.

He walks over to the side of my bed, sets his bag down, and kneels down.

He rests his hand on top of my hand that was strapped down and whispers, "What did they do to you?" His voice shook.

Tears build up in my eyes. Jeez, when did I start crying so much?

He releases my wrist and ankles from their restraints. I sit up and wrap my good arm around his neck. He hugs me around my waist.

"Why did they do this? Why did they take you?" He asks.

"They are under the impression that you guys were keeping me hostage."

"What? Are you kidding me? Just deny it. Eventually, people will start to get suspicious and look into this more."

I shake my head and whisper, "I can't."

"Why?"

I look downward. "I..." Should I risk telling him about my drawings? "I...I can't tell you."

"Are they blackmailing you?"

"...Yeah." Please don't ask with what.

"With what?"

Crap. I remain silent.

Evan looks at me with patience. "Can you not tell me that either?"

I nod.

He lifts my chin to look me in the eyes. "Everything is going to be fine, okay? Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not that bad."

He was so caring. He had no idea what they were using to blackmail me though. He could never see that. He'll hate me for sure.

"Evan? Why are you wearing those ridiculous glasses and hat?" I ask humorously.

He smiles. "So your step dad doesn't recognize me. He's already met me so he knows who I am. I can't exactly sneak into a house with people that know me."

I pull the glasses off of his face and set them down next to me. Then I slide the hat off of his head and run my fingers through his hair. He leans into my touch. I toss the hat onto the ground.

"I'm going to check your blood pressure now, Ms. Seraphim." Evan says in a rather loud voice.

I give him a confused look.

"Gotta make your step dad think I'm actually doing doctory stuff." He whispers.

I smirk and roll my eyes. "How did you convince my step dad that you were here to do a check-u on me? Usually he would sense that you are a devil by your aura."

"I'm just so sneaky like that."

I raise my eyebrows.

"Okay, maybe Xavier helped me get a potion to temporarily change my aura for a couple hours so nobody knows what I actually am."
