"Kara."
Someone shakes my shoulder.
I groan. "Mm."
"Kara."
"Hm." I crack my eyes open and see Xavier bent over, looking at me. "Xavier? What time is it?"
He doesn't answer my question. Instead he whispers, "Listen, I feel like it's super important that I go to that destination I know I'm suppose to go to. Will you come with me?"
I sit up and rub my eyes.It was still dark outside so it was the middle of the night. "Xavier-"
"I'm going either way but I feel like you should come with me since you're the one who wants to help me." He straightens to his full height.
"Can't this wait until morning?"
"No. You know Thia and Ty won't let me go. I have to know why this place is so important."
I sigh. "Well I can't have you going alone."
He smiles.
"But if we don't find this place by sunrise, we are going back." I negotiate.
"Deal."
I swing my legs over the side of the bed. "Why are you talking tome again, anyway? I mean I know your powers are under control and all but still. I thought you just wanted to communicate in sign language."
"You aren't influenced by my powers so I don't have to worry about it. It's not like I'm mad at you guys or anything. I just can't risk it with anyone else."
He turns around and starts walking out of the room.
"Is Evan-"
"We leave in fifteen minutes." He interrupts me.
Oh, okay. I guess it was just Xavier and me. What did I get myself into?
I quickly get dressed and go downstairs. I wore a black, long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and knee high boots. I slipped a knife into my boot in case some raiders decided to pay us a visit.
We walk for five minutes in silence before it became to much to handle.
"So are you going to tel me where we're going or are we just going to keep aimlessly walking into the woods?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"I told you, I don't know where we're heading. All I know is my brain is telling me we're walking in the right direction."
"How does your brain know?"
"I don't know. It's like it knows where to go but I have no idea. I have no other way of explaining it." Xavier says, seeming slightly angry at me.
I try to steer the covrsation away from this subject. Out of the blue I ask, "Do you trust me?"
He turns his head to look at me as we keep walking. "Of course I do." Doubt never crossed his eyes.
"Do you trust Thia and Ty?" I continue.
"Yes. Why? Is something wrong?"
"No." I kick the grass as we continue to walk.
"But..." Xavier questions.
"Why me? Why did you choose to bring me? Why not Thia? You've known her for way longer. Why put so much trust in me?"
He chuckles. "Should I not trust you? You've never given me a reason why I shouldn't."
"Okay, but then there's tonight. You could have asked Thia to come but you didn't. Why? It can't be just because you think Thia won't let you."
"I'm not blind. I see the fear in her eyes, in everyone's. They try to hide it and act like everything is fine but it's not. They treat me differently, almost like I'm fragile and could break at any second. You're the only one that still treats me normally. That's how I know I can trust you. That's why I brought you here."
