In a matter of seconds, Mioha found herself laying on the side surrounded by trees. It was dark, the silhouettes of the trees looming over her threateningly. She snorted nervously and quickly got back on her feet, her tail swishing through the air.
Fawkes had disappeared.
Two figures were standing in front of her, one of them holding a wand that emitted a soft blue light.
"Ms. Mioha", Albus Dumbledore said in a rushed voice, his wand casting a blue light on his wrinkled face, "we need your help."
He waved his wand, the blue glow intensifying until it illuminated the tall figure of Hagrid who was holding something wrapped in black robes. Hagrid carefully lowered the bundle of robes to the ground, pushing the robes aside until Mioha recognized what they had covered.
Draco Malfoy.
His face was pale, paler than normal, and he was shivering beneath the robes. Blonde hair was sticking to Draco's forehead, and blue veins were visibly running down the side of his face.
What caught Mioha's attention was the large bloody wound at the side of his neck. Thick black blood oozed out of the wound, spreading a foul smell.
"He followed Harry to the dragons tonight", Professor Dumbledore explained hurriedly, concern flickering in his blue eyes.
"The Wyvern stung him through the bars, it had somehow broken the shield."
"We need ye to heal him", Hagrid said pleadingly, his giant fingers knotting together.
"Fawkes is not able to cry at the moment, and the poison is too strong to be healed by human magic. I will explain more later", said the headmaster, "but please, help Mr. Malfoy."
Mioha lowered her head down, sniffing softly at Draco. The Slytherin seemed to have a fewer, he was mumbling incoherent words and his eyes were moving restlessly behind his eyelids. He also seemed to be in pain, for he kept shifting around, throwing his head to the side.
Mioha studied him for a moment.
She didn't want him to die. It wasn't like he was actually evil, he just had been raised by very prejudiced parents.
Mioha lowered her horn until it hovered a few centimeters above Draco's wound. Letting her magic surge forward, her spiraled horn started to glow in a bright, silver light forming at the tip. It washed over Draco's neck, illuminating his face partially.
The light started to move into the wound and through Draco's skin. Mioha concentrated strongly and let it flow carefully through the teenager's veins, clearing them of the poison inside his system. Less blood seeped out of the wound, until the blood flow was reduced to a trickle, and finally stopped all together.
Mioha let her magic travel through Draco's body for several moments to ensure that the poison was fully gone. A soft light shimmered beneath Draco's skin where her magic traveled, and slowly his face returned to its usual color. The skin knitted itself together and grew smooth again, until no trace remained of the ugly wound.
She heard Draco's labored breathing had eased and he wasn't shifting around in pain anymore.
Mioha's eyes rested upon Draco's face for another second.
He looks so peaceful, she wondered, noting how his eyebrows and his lips weren't pinched together in his sleep.
Draco groaned quietly and suddenly, opened his eyes slightly. Mioha flinched back as grey eyes stared at her, widening in surprise. She yanked her head back and reared up, fear filling her completely.
Draco had seen her!
"Mioha!", she heard Hagrid shout as she galloped into the dark forest, leaving the small glade behind her in a matter of seconds. His body hurt. A lot. It felt like someone was pressing fire tongs into the side of his neck, drilling them into his skin until hot, unbearable pain seared through every inch of his body.
The darkness surrounding his mind was welcoming, it took the pain away.
Let me sleep..., Draco thought tiredly when he heard voices, distorted as if he were underwater.
He just wanted to sleep...nobody would care anyway...
Then...he felt...better?
Slowly, the pain eased away and Draco felt it easier to breathe. His neck wasn't throbbing anymore, no fire flowed through his body.
Am I dead?, he asked himself.
No, he couldn't be.
His mind started to take in his surroundings more clearly, he heard the Professors talking in low voices.
Something felt warm on his forehead, warm drafts of air washing gently across his face.
He tried to open his eyes, but his eyelids were sticking together. It took him a few tries until he could pry his eyes opened a bit, and what he saw let his eyes get as round as saucers.
There was a silver unicorn bent over him, its green eyes looking at him gently. There were wings folded on its back, Draco noted dizzily. He had never seen anyone look at him like that, besides his mother when she wasn't as cold as ice.
Draco felt like the winged unicorn understood more of him in a second than his family had throughout his entire life.
He felt peaceful.
The creature suddenly reared up, panic flashing in its eyes as it whirled around and dashed into the forest.
Don't go!, Draco wanted to say, but no sound came out of his dry throat. He heard Hagrid yell "Mioha!" after the creature, but it didn't come back.
Years of learning from his father let Draco act instinctively. He snapped his eyes back shut, forcing himself to relax and pretend to be asleep.
He had recognized the creature within a second.
It was a Silverwing.
His father had told him all about how he and other Death Eaters had tried to collect the horns to bring back the Dark Lord, but just ended up killing
all of the Silverwings.
And now, there was one alive.
Draco's thoughts raced as he calculated his next moves.
The Silverwing's name seemed to be Mioha, and the headmaster and Hagrid knew about it.
How had it survived? Who else knew about it? Where was it hiding?
Draco knew he had to contact his father as soon as possible, but for know, he acted like he was in a deep sleep while he heard steps coming closer.
"Do ye think he saw her?", asked Hagrid.
"Possible", replied Dumbledore, "I will ask him in the morning about what he remembers. Luckily, Fawkes brought her just in time."
Draco's breaths slowed as he slowly faded into darkness, exhaustion overwhelming him too powerful to resist.Mioha spent the entire night walking restlessly through the Forbidden Forest in her unicorn disguise. One thought after another raced through her mind, like countless darts being thrown at a target.
Draco's eyes had been open. He had to have seen her standing above him.
But maybe he had only seen her head, and in the dim light she could have easily been mistaken for a unicorn.
Or...
Mioha was searching for several ways to persuade herself why she wasn't in danger.
Maybe Draco hadn't been fully awake, so perhaps he would forget all about last night by the time he woke up. Or he would think her a hallucination.
Mioha ran her hands through her hair and looked up at the sun rising, coloring the grey sky in a peachy hue.
Since her transformation back into a human she had started shivering badly, which forced her to return into the castle. She entered Hogwarts through the secret side entrance and made her way through the Labyrinth before exiting it to get to her dorm.
The wall slid to the side as she spoke the password to get into the Slytherin den, Professor Snape always left it unlocked for her during a full moon.
Another thought popped abruptly into her head, like a dart hitting the center of the target.
Maybe Professor Dumbledore would have to obliviate Draco.
