A/N: The episode being used for this chapter is 'What Do You Do'.
"Happy birthday!" Adam says with a smile, trying to make the now 25-year-old feel welcomed on her special day as she walks into the bullpen.
The others join in on congratulating her, and she thanks them with a small smile. Whether some of them mean it or not, she accepts the wishes.
"We're partying at my place tonight. 7 o'clock, don't be late." Al informs the others, who seem impressed.
"You still like to party? Aren't those days behind you?" Adam asks his mentor, who slowly blinks.
"Everyone, except Ruzek, is invited." Olinsky tells Rodriguez, who wears a tiny smile.
"Trudy needs help picking up the beat." Hank announces after the small talk has died down.
"Hopefully she finds someone." Jay comments, earning a high-five from Kevin.
"You," Hank says, pointing at Jay, "And you. Go." He orders after pointing to Danielle.
"I've got it, Sarge." Jay says as he stands from his chair.
"Both of you are going. Show her the ropes." Hank speaks, leaving no room for further discussion.
While nothing else is said, the sniper quietly makes her way towards the hallway to get to the garage.
...
"Squad, hold us down on a personal at 4215 Roosevelt." Jay calls in through his radio.
"Copy that, 4215 Roosevelt." A woman's voice repeats.
The two get out of the car and enter a small convenience store. The veteran has a craving for coffee and decided to stop for it. When they enter the store, he heads straight to where the coffee is, finding a fresh pot has just been made.
"I'm gonna get a snack, want anything?" He asks his partner after he has poured himself a cup of coffee.
"Yeah." She answers, going in the opposite direction, looking for a small pack of trail mix.
Once they both have their snacks, they head to the register, and he pays for everything. She gives him thanks when they're walking outside to the car. While she makes sure no cars are coming from either side of the street, she sees movement coming from her left. Across the street, she sees two guys heading into a huge building. The way the first guy is holding the second guy, with one arm firmly twisted behind his back, makes her suspicious.
"Halstead." She says softly while setting down her snack on the hood of the car.
"What's up?" He asks, watching as she crosses the street, heading towards a building.
Wondering what's going on, he quickly follows her across the street. She hasn't given him an answer yet but has already drawn her gun quietly.
"I think that guy had a gun." She tells him in a whisper.
"You think or you saw?" He asks, now fully alert as they get on either side of the door.
"It looked like it, the way he was holding the guy." She answers.
"Do you want to call it in?"
"I wanna knock and see what's what."
He nods once and she bangs on the door. Nothing. She bangs on it again, and the door opens, revealing a young Japanese guy.
"Sir, we're gonna ask you to step outside." Jay tells the guy while he and Danielle put their guns in their holsters.
"We're with the police department. This is Detective Halstead, I'm Detective Rodri-"
