As she waits in the living room, Danielle's phone vibrates with a call. Quickly looking at her screen, she finds that it isn't Hank who is calling her. Instead, she sees Ace's contact.
"Morning, Shadow. How are you doing?" He asks after she answers the call.
"I'm doing okay. You?"
"I'm doing okay, too."
Silence takes over the call for a few seconds as she tries to figure out why he has called.
"Hey, maybe if we grab breakfast with the others, we'll feel a bit better. What do you say?" He asks, trying to distract her so she doesn't slip from his, or their other friends', grasp again.
They all know that tonight's events will hurt each of them, but it will hurt the youngest member of the friend group the most since she was the closest to the Marines.
"Oh, well..."
"I'll even give you a ride to work." He adds, sounding hopeful that she'll accept.
Not being able to deny her friend, she says, "Okay. Let me know when you're on your way."
"I will. Demon and Scar are already ready."
"Alright, man. See you in a bit."
"Yeah, see you in a bit."
...
"Thank you for breakfast and the ride." Danielle thanks her friends after she has gotten out of Ace's low rider.
"No problem, sunshine." Ace says with a smile.
"You have a good day, alright? Kick people's asses." Demon speaks up from the backseat.
"I'll come get you after work." Scar chimes in.
"Thank you, but I already have a ride." She tells him softly.
"Yeah? Who?" He asks skeptically.
"Hank." She answers.
"Oh, Hank." All three young men say in high pitched voices, trying to imitate a feminine voice.
She slightly shakes her head but can't help but laugh a little at how funny they sounded.
"Real mature, guys. Real mature." She says with a smile.
"Hey, we made her laugh." Demon says with a grin.
"Good work, boys." Scar says while sounding proud of themselves.
"Yo," Ace quietly says, "Your 9 o'clock, who's that coming this way?" He asks her.
Scar and Demon become protective at hearing this. Casually, she lightly brushes her nose along her left forearm, pretending to be sniffling against the material, as her eyes look directly at Kevin.
"Kevin. Everything is good." She whispers to them, watching as their shoulders relax.
"Morning, Danielle." Kevin greets her as he gets closer to the car.
"Morning, Kevin." She responds with a slight nod.
"I was checkin' out this sick ride you took to get here. What year is this car?" He asks with a smile as his eyes take in the car from up close.
"It's a '79 Lincoln Continental Mark V." She answers with a slight smile. "His pride and joy." She adds, gesturing inside of the vehicle.
Kevin bends down a bit to look inside, finding all three young men looking right at him.
