Helen, Denise, and I sat down with Simi and Tobey, in the Pavillion. We have many things to discuss.
After greetings and opening social conversation, Tobey was looking up at the roof of the Pavillion, surveying it. "It is as you say, Helen. People look at things like this park you bought to make the new social center, and they do not appreciate it. Look up there: Some idiot with a spray can wrote some graffiti on the crossbar.
I looked up at what Tobey is looking at. A heart with an arrow through it. 'J' on one end. 'A' on the other.
"Do they not know I can go up there and get their scent?" I asked rhetorically.
"All Ninovan's really, truly, deeply know about you is that you beat the hell out of Alexander." Tobey said.
"Rightly so." Helen defended me.
"Also, that you and Morgan are half Siren." Simi added.
"What?" I asked, having that come out of the blue.
"Sure. Whenever we do a song night, you two are there, harmonizing and sometimes even playing your musical instruments."
"I see. Now Sirens have a bloody patent on music? I'm a fucking Vampire for centuries, and I play a harpsichord sound on my lovely little synthesizer, and suddenly, I am a damn Siren? No offense, Tobey." Helen asked.
"No. That is not singing, though. Still: I take your point. More creatures on this planet than Sirens can sing." Tobey said.
"None as well." I said.
"In Ninovan, it has been that way for as long as anyone can recall. Siren women and Tobey are usually the song leaders. Nothing like what happens over that Siren Hall, 'The Firehouse'. That is a unique kind of singing altogether." Simi explained. "Our song night has never led to other things. Nothing like the seduction and attempts to get human women to have Siren children."
Simi gave that further consideration. "Well: OK. Not completely true either. It is that song night is not specially meant to be a seduction. It may put people in an amorous mood. There may be pairing up. But it's Ninovan: That happens at a BBQ or any other social gathering too."
Of all the Ninovan's, only Tobey and Simi can safely go to 'The Firehouse', especially during 'Open Mike Night'. Simi is immune to their song, and Tobey is a mature male Siren, so he is immune to their shenanigans. He and Simi live together now, so there is no actual reason for Tobey to stray in any case. A Siren man with a female Vampire lover. He is a rich man in terms of love. They are not exclusive to each other as they are Ninovan, but nearly so. Even new parents like Kristi and Mikey I am sure have other lovers. if no one else, Kevin probably came bouncing through for a happy screw. The problem with the way Alexander helped them by getting Kristi to have sex with him was that he made it a price for his help. There is an enormous difference between willing participation and being charged a sex act for help with a baby.
"That brings up a point. What has the larger Siren community, especially the ones at 'The Firehouse' been told about us?" Simi asked. "They know we are here. They helped get us here safely. I ask because I worry about young males and all the female Astrals we have. If they are all as affected by Astrals as they are reportedly by Angel when she has visited 'The Firehouse', I do not understand why we do not have a line of them here."
"There are also a fair number of Siren women in Ninovan. Unattached, except to the community. Siren boy on Siren girl equals Siren baby, so I am amazed there are not flyers posted all over about Open Mike Night to try and get them there and see if they can be seduced. Young males with a fresh group of known female Sirens? Ones that have not been exposed at any point in their lives to their type of Siren Song?. I know what I am talking about here. I used to be one." Tobey added.
