Denise, Morgan, Vera, and I stood outside Sandy's holding cell. Two of us had our arms crossed. Denise looked exasperated with her prisoner and crossed her arms, and mine are crossed because every time I look at her face I remember. It is not easy. I am glad I will not be alone tonight.
Morgan looked at my body posture and understood it for what it is.
Vera looked at my posture and then into the cell at Sandy with a flash of anger.
Jessica sat at the 'Jailer desk' (or whatever you call the desk in the same room as the cell) and flipped through documentation. When the Crew puts someone in detention, they track their health closely. 'Doctor Jessica' is not getting many chances to take off that hat and be 'Amazon Jessica' lately. Ever since the fuck up with Alexander, she has been more into burying herself in the technical end of things. Morgan and I have talked about it and are watching her closely. We want to be sure this is not a long-term thing for her. Jessica needs to be Jessica, in all her glory.
"OK, Denise. This all looks pretty good. I'll check the rapey bitch one more time." Jessica said.
OK. That's a Jessica kind of thing to say. Morgan and I gave each other micro-nods of approval on that one.
Denise unlocked the cell and wordlessly opened it for Jessica to enter. Sandy made no attempt to escape. She looked up at Jessica, and her expression was mild annoyance. "What do you want?"
"I am going to take your vital signs." Jessica said. "Stick out your arm so I don't have to break it then fix it. I have been known to do that. Saved a kids life by doing that once."
"Like you're a Doctor..." Sandy said bitterly
"I am. Longer than you have been alive more than likely." Jessica said, not returning the bitterness, but with an undercurrent of danger nonetheless.
"She did." I said. "Kid was hitting on her. His broken body kept him from a battle. One where the bad guys got their heads handed to them."
"Jeffery did not have a head when you were done with him." Jessica pointed out.
"I was pissed off." I said.
"I was holier than though." Morgan offered.
"Who are you?" I asked Morgan. "That is a Jessica line."
"She is rubbing off on me." Morgan explained.
"Every night. Arm, bitch." Jessica said.
Once Jessica checked everything, including eyes, ears, and scent, she stood and told Denise with an allowing wave toward the weird little women: "Go ahead. Little Rapey is good to go."
They traded locations. Denise looked Sandy over for a moment and phrased her question.
"Sandy. I need to know how you came to be in the possession of the Sirens. How they came to be able to use you for bait."
"Yeah, well: I need to eat out your pussy, you blonde bitch. While he's fucking me. Ain't neither of us getting what we want." Sandy said. She looked at me with that look. "I know. I tried. Dude can't get it up."
"Not that. If I am to be eaten then he is the one that will be doing it to me. I can just cut out the middle woman, your crappy ass, and go directly to the source. He and his lovely, fangy, loving mouth."
"It is that." Jessica said.
"And more." Morgan said.
"All damn night if you let him." Vera said.
Sandy looked at each in turn with a very dubious expression.
"I do however have a bribe for you. Vera?" Denise said and opened a palm in Vera's direction.
