The four of us lay in bed before the baby topic came up again.
I am minding my own business, listening in on Vera, and Angel talking upstairs about their day as they snuggled down.
I cannot explain my joy in knowing that they are happy together. I love them both. What they say about love is true sometimes: Love is about caring if the person that you love is happy. At the same time, I know that I would never be the exclusively right person for either of them, but for different reasons.
For Vera, it is because we are like DeWayne and Morgan in some ways. Our timing with each other is never right. Self-honesty forces me to admit also that she will probably always want things from me I am not comfortable with.
Angel is different in that she and Morgan have been sisters in arms for a long time. Practically all of Nakoma's life. Being with Angel is still a little weird for me, and that is because body and soul, I am with Morgan.
Can I get past it? Sure. I love Angel. Does Angel know and understand? Sure. She is an Astral.
In tonight's upstairs conversation, I learned that Larry was an ass today again. Nothing shocking there. Vera talked to Ginger about behind-the-scenes club management issues, such as getting a better grade of French fry into the kitchen, since they make such good burgers. They need to match better. Angel was telling Vera about some research into a case she is doing. A deep background check for Don.
Morgan propped herself up on one elbow and looked at me. "You and Helen? Baby with Simi and Tobey?" she open-endedly asked.
I mentally scrambled downstairs. "Yes?" I agreed, questioningly.
"Simi said she was going to wait until things settled here. I suppose they have, but this is fast." Morgan said.
"You can say 'no'." I told her.
"No, No. It is not that. I like that you designed it so that you take care of Tobey and her, and that you even covered the bonding. I agree that your genetics need to be nurtured."
"So, you and I are having another kid?" I asked.
"Yes. That has always been my plan. Like Denise, not only one more. Not now, though." Morgan said.
"You are as unique as he is, Morgan." Jessica pointed out.
"I am not looking to have a kid right now. Stop it." Morgan instructed. "I will. Several more. Just not now."
"Ok, but you know I would love to be all snuggly with you when you are pregnant." Jessica said.
"It sounds as if Helen might be the next one getting pregnant." Morgan said.
"Why does it sound that way?" Helen asked, not expecting that.
"If you are there? Express purpose making a baby?" Morgan prompted.
"I will safely skip the pheromones. I need not be there for that. Adrian can give Simi a lungful, and then leave. She can get a spritzer from the clinic even. Tobey can take care of the results. From then on, I am safe from unplanned pregnancy."
"Are you planning another child, Helen?" Morgan asked Helen, turning it around.
"Someday. Perhaps after I leave Council and can devote myself to our child completely." Helen said.
"Exactly my feeling on the subject of more children. Let us also get this batch grown? At least to babysitter age?" Morgan said.
"Will you have the same rules as Adrian?" Jessica asked Morgan. "I mean, if you have a child not with Adrian because spreading the gene pool, will you require being the full-time parent?"
