"That definitely is Luke, what the fuck?" Calum responds.
"Do you know who she is?" I ask.
"I've never seen her. And he doesn't talk about any other girls besides Lia."
This "normal" date sure has gone awry quickly. I begin to think about what I should do next. Should I approach Luke, or should I tell Lia first? This was such a bad position to be in, especially since the boys are leaving tomorrow.
We finish up dinner but it's spoiled by what we saw. Calum promises to address it with Luke later, but he doesn't want to go up and confront him and make a big scene in the restaurant. Once Calum pays, we get up and leave. My mind is spinning on our walk home as I try and make sense of what we saw. Calum can sense that I'm getting anxious and he tries to calm me down.
"I'm sorry that that had to happen on our last night together, I don't know what Luke was thinking."
"My mind is just all over the place now. Like what if Luke doesn't like Lia anymore and then you guys don't come back here on the weekends and then I don't get to see you-"
"Relax, Nova. No matter what, you'll see me. I'll find a way, I'll always find a way." With that, he pulls me in for a long hug that makes way to a kiss. We're in front of my building now, and this is where we have to say goodbye.
                              "I don't wanna say goodbye," I whisper.
"Me neither. But I want you to know that you can call me or text whenever. Even if I'm recording, I'll pause it all just to get the chance to chat with you."
I nod. I want to believe it, but I can't help but think that San Francisco might change us. I wish things could stay the same and that we could stay like this forever, but that will take work.
I look into his eyes and it looks like he wants to tell me something, but I can't decipher what it is. I almost ask, but then the moment passes. I'm overthinking too much. We kiss one last time before saying our final words.
"I'm gonna miss you so much. But you deserve this," I say.
"I'm gonna miss you more. And I'll make you proud." He gives a sad grin to me, and then turns away. I wasn't expecting it, but my eyes begin to water. Quickly I turn away too, and walk into the building. Shit, I'm going through an emotional crisis. And I have to tell Lia that her boyfriend is cheating on her.
When I get to the room, of course I don't have my key, so I knock. Lia opens the door smiling. God, I have to ruin her night.
"How was your night with Cal?"
"Oh, uh, good. We got pizza at Purgatory Pizza, and... I don't know how to tell you this..."
                              Lia gasps, "You're pregnant?!"
"Not even close. Um, we saw Luke there. And... he was with someone."
"Oh yeah, he told me he was gonna meet one of his friends before he left."
"Well, you could say it was... a friend. A very close friend."
"Oh, his best friend? It was probably Matt."
"Lia. It was not a dude. And I don't know about you, but I don't make out with my best friend."
A look of recognition takes the color out of Lia's face. "Was it that fucking bitch Bella they're recording with? I swear to god I will punch her in her little hoe mouth!"
"Lia, no! I wish I recognized her. But even Calum didn't. This is a serious side hoe. She might not even go to this school."
I can see the tears well up in Lia's eyes. "I don't wanna believe it."
"I'm sorry. This sucks, especially right now. I'll be here for you though, don't worry. I'm always here for you."
She wipes at her eyes, and a look of anger comes over her face. "Grab the keys, Luke is a dead man," she says. "We're going to sort this the fuck out."
