"Supernooooooova."
I'm frozen, like a deer in headlights. Standing in the doorframe is none other than Calum Fucking Hood. My heart beats at an incredibly faster than normal pace. The only reason he isn't screaming in anger is because his face is covered by a bouquet of sunflowers.
"Guess who it is?" he says, his face still hidden.
I can't respond, and Maisy is frozen beside me as well.
"Nova? Are you there? Or is that Maisy I see--"
He throws down the bouquet when he realizes what lies in front of him. "Oh. It's both."
"Calum, wait!" I exclaim finally. "I can explain!"
"Oh," he says, becoming increasingly angry, "Now you can respond, huh? Or were you just too busy fucking your roommate?"
"It's not what it looks like!" I cry out. "We-we met Jeffree Star! And he gave us money. To buy alcohol! And we bought it, and... you should really be mad at Jeffree, not us!"
Maisy finally chimes in. "Exactly! This is all just one big misunderstanding."
"I don't believe that for one second. You're drunk. You're not making any sense."
My eyes start welling with tears. Everything was falling apart right in front of me. "Calum, please. Let's just talk about--"
"I drove all the way from San Francisco just to surprise you, just to spend twelve hours with you, and this is how I find you?"
"Well how did you get in here anyways?" Maisy calls out. "That's a major invasion of our fucking privacy. I live here too, you know? Maybe you should think about that?"
Calum rolls his eyes. "Maisy, shut the fuck up. And you have your little friend to thank for this. She always loses her key, so she left a spare with Lia, right?" He looks at me for confirmation.
This time I look at him with anger. "So you stole my fucking key from Lia?? It's only for emergencies!"
"Maybe you should be mad at Lia then. She gave it to me. She seemed to think this would be a nice gesture, for what it's worth."
My head is spinning with anger, shame, and alcohol all at once. I'm mad at Calum, but at the same time, I understand why he's mad at me. And I'm mad at Lia. But maybe I shouldn't be? I was too drunk to decide.
He takes my silence as a cue and rolls his eyes again. "Whatever. I was planning to sleep here with you, but I guess I'll just sleep in the van."
"Calum--" I start.
"I don't want to hear it. Goodnight, Nova." He steps back outside of the room and slams the door behind him.
