Hayes POV
"I don't think you're dangerous." Gabrielle says softly. By the way if you don't remember, Gabrielle doesn't talk. Well she didn't. At all.
"Did you just talk?" I ask her surprised and she nods before saying yes. She seems nervous to be talking and I can understand that. I'm the first person she's talked to in years.
We sit there just talking, something I never pictured I would do with Gabrielle. She stutters while she talks, seeming uncomfortable, but I know it's hard for her. Gabrielle tells me her whole story. She has abusive parents and is scared every single day she wakes up. My heart hurts for her considering I just went off on that stupid rant.
When she's finished her story, I have no clue what to say.
"Gabrielle..." I want to tell her that I'm sorry but I know it won't help. Because people say that to me and it doesn't do anything.
"I-I have to g-go. I'll s-see you t-tomorrow." She gets up and walks away.
I always thought I got on her nerves, but she turns out to me the person most like me. In these last ten minutes, I've told her all of my secrets and she's told me all of mine. I trust Gabrielle and even if I don't love her the same way I do Amber, I care for her.
I sit there for a moment longer after she leaves. Well, at least I have a friend
The next day in homeroom, Amber doesn't look at me at all. It's Friday, the last day of school before winter break. It doesn't really matter, it's not like I have friends to hang with or a family to spend time with.
At lunch, I sit with Gabrielle as usual. It's kind of awkward since yesterday we told each other our whole lives and we had never had a real conversation before that.
She said yesterday she doesn't want other one people to know she's talking so we both stay kind of silent. I work on my homework for class next period and she reads.
"Hey you wanna hang out after school?" I ask randomly. I don't feel like going home after and I know Amber's about done with me right now. Besides, I think I can consider Gabrielle a friend now.
She shrugs and I nod.
I hear a loud chair screech across the floor and I look up to see Amber storming out of the cafeteria. Hunter and his friends are pointing and laughing. I resist the urge to go and break him because I know it'll just get me kicked out. But there will be some ass-kicking.
After school, Gabrielle and I walk to the mall. None of us have much money, so we just walk around in circles. It feels pretty nice to be with someone who doesn't think I'll kill them and yet again I wish I hadn;t messed everything up with Amber.
We get a table in the food court and I buy us slices of pizza. Gabrielle thanks me with a nod and I know she's still getting used to speaking.
I notice Hunter and some other idiots standing outside the mall trying to act cool.
"I gotta go take care of something." I say to her, gesturing towards them.
She smiles and nods and I walk out the door with my sprite.
"Well look who we have here." Hunter says when he sees me. I don't say anything, just take a sip of soda while clenching my other fist.
"Little Hayes looks mad doesn't he boys?" He adds but I see a little tinge of fear in his eyes as he remembers what I did to him in the resteraunt.
I shove my sprite into the nearest idiot's hand saying, "Hold this for me bro." Then I punch Hunter.
After a few hits, he's already on the ground. "That was for calling me Little Hayes." I say pinning him to the ground. He struggles to get away but I laugh at his attempts. I don't think so.
