Hayes POV

I stay with Amber in the room for the rest of the party. Just us laying on the bed looking at the ceiling. We talk, we laugh, we have fun. The music is pounding outside but we both seem to have forgotten its there. Amber seems fine after what almost happened and I'm just glad I came soon enough. She's so beautiful and I loved talking to her. It's almost 1 in the morning and we're both lying on our sides facing each other.

"Hey Hayes?" She asks me. We've become pretty close tonight.

"Hm?"

"What did you do?" She whispers.

"What do you mean?"

"Why are you doing community service like what did you do?" Now she'll never talk to me again.

"Amber, I-i can't tell you." Now that we've talked, I'm really starting to like Amber. And I know she'll be scared of me if I tell her.

"Hayes cmon we're friends. I dont care." Amber says but I know she will if she knew. I sigh and she gets up from the bed.

"Amber-"

"Hayes...you can tell me. I'ts not like I'm just gonna stop hanging out with you."

"No thats exactly what would happen Amber."

"If you think I'm the type of person to do that then I dont care what you did. I'll see you around Hayes." She leaves the room and I start after her calling her name. I realize the party is still in full swing and I quickly lose her in the crowd. Should I have told her? She would hate me if she knew. But...she hates me now. Why do I care? I legit met this girl a couple of days ago.

**

(This is the next day)

"Hayes please don't destroy anything." My mom tells me as I'm about to walk out the door for school. I transferred to this new school, J. Hampton Moore, since my old school kicked me out for what I did. They're so dramatic, they think I'm a danger to the other kids. Apparently, it was hard to get me into this school and I'm already on probabtion. Lovely.

"Bye mom." I say and walk out the door. We don't have a car and there's no bus that comes to our building so I hop on a public bus. It lets me off a block away from my school and I sigh. I walk up the front steps, my bag over one shoulder and my other hand in my pocket. I see a lot of girls staring at me but I hate it. I hate starting all over again. I quickly get my scheduele from the office and scan over all of my AP classes. I'm actually pretty smart but by looking at me you can't really tell.

I head to my homeroom, someone named Mrs. Lofty, and immediately head to the back of the room. A loud bell rings and I decide to check out the rest of my class. I notice a pretty girl with her head hanging down in another corner of the room. She doesn't talk at all and seems to be just looking around like I am. Yeah, we'll probably end up being friends by default.

"I'm soo sorry I'm late I was helping Pat clean his locker." I hear from the front of the room. I look up and see Amber breathing heavily. Of course she goes here, I should've known. At lease I know someone. Except she doesn't like me.

"Not a good enough excuse Amber. Detention after school." She hands Amber a white piece of paper. Amber takes the slip while rolling her eyes and walks down the rows to get to an empty seat in the middle. She notices me in the back and her eyes widen. A slight smile plays on her lips and I grin. Hopefully she's not mad anymore for me not telling her.

After homeroom I'm the last to file out of the classroom. I see Amber leaning against the wall near the door waiting for me.

"Hey stranger." She says and we begin to walk down the hall. "Since when do you go here?"
