Hayes POV
It's now March and spring break isn't too far away. School has been school, I hang with Gabrielle and Amber mostly. I made friends with another new kid, Cam, and he's cool too. He hangs out with Hunter too but he's not mean at all. Life's going good and I officially asked Amber to be my girlfriend on Valentine's Day. She said yes and now I'm the happiest I've been in a long time. Kate has stopped bitching about me (at least kind of stopped) and I think everyone has just gotten used to me. And community service ends soon.
The only problem is my mom. She hasn't done anything besides smoke and tell me to get more cigarettes. Since my dad was killed, it's like she's living monotone or something. She stopped caring about me and herself and I don't know what to do. I'm saving up the money from working to put her in a nursing home while I'm away at college. But all I can do is wait till I have enough right now.
Early afternoon on the Saturday the week before break, Amber texts me about shopping for LA. Even though it's hot here in Texas too, I guess she just wants California clothes. I agree and get dressed in a plain t-shirt and shorts.
I meet Amber in the food court and she's all business when it comes to shopping.
"I need a swimsuit." She says as soon as I get there.
"Happy Saturday to you too." I smirk and she rolls her eyes.
"So bathing suit. Hollister?" She asks as we start to walk around the huge shopping center.
"Do they have the skimpiest?" I reply, pleased that she's doing some bikini shopping.
Amber just walks into Hollister and I follow. The darkness and smell hits me and I start to cough.
"You okay?" Amber asks me as she flips through racks of bikini tops.
"Perfectly fine." I say choking while I notice a worker going and spraying the clothes with even more perfume.
In no time, Amber's hands are full of tops and bottoms and she goes to the dressing room. I sit in a chair outside and just go through twitter.
"Excuse me?" I hear and look up to see a young Hollister salesperson looking down at me. "Have you ever modeled before?"
I laugh and say, "Not at all."
"Well I just think you'd be a great spokesperson for Hollister I mean you have the look and all." She says slowly taking her eyes from my head to my shoes.
"Ah, I'm not really into modeling." I say laughing again. Me a model? I don't think so.
"You should definitely check it out. You get paid a lot too." She hands me a business card and walks away. Did I just get approached to be an Hollister model? Amber will get a kick out of this. I put it in my pocket as Amber walks out of the dressing room.
"What do you think?" She asks striking a pose. I stare at her, wondering how I get to call this girl my girlfriend. She's gorgeous, flawless, beautiful. It's a pretty suit, a strapless top and rainbow pattern on the top and bottom.
"So yes or no?" She asks looking at me confused.
"Yes yes yes." I say still looking at her. "You look beautiful."
She hugs her arms around herself and bites her lip. "You think so?"
"Amber, it's perfect. You're perfect."
"Yes you are." A random guy says leaning against the wall and checking her out. Oh yeah I forgot we were in Hollister.
"Tip for getting girls," Amber says to him crossing her arms. "Don't hit on them when their boyfriend can snap you in half." She then smiles beautifully. "Nice meeting you though!" She says fakely and shoots me a look before walking into the dressing room. I just laugh as the guy walks away.
