Hayes POV
Well back to this shit again. I hop on the bus to school, wishing I was still in LA. I don't feel like suffering through another one of Mr.Banks's lectures right now.
Getting off the bus growling, I walk to school. After arriving, I immediately go to my locker and see Amber leaning against it texting. It reminds me of a few months ago when I arrived and she was texting Hunter. So much has changed since then. Good.
"Long time no see." I say smirking and kissing her.
"Can't believe we're back in this hell hole." She replies and waits for me to get my books out of my locker. She sighs and turns on her phone again telling me I take forever. When she presses the home button on her phone I see the backround picture is the one we took in Disneyland together.
"Nice backround." I comment.
"I know right?"
"I've got the same one."
Amber and I walk to homeroom together and slide into our seats. A second later, Gabrielle comes in with Jack, Kate's ex boyfriend. Them two? Well what do ya know, anything can happen.
I've actually missed Gabrielle, she's kinda my best friend besides Amber of course. I was the first one she talked to in three years so I'm assuming she considers us friends now.
At lunch, Amber says she's going to sit with Reb and I nod and head over to the table only Gabrielle and I share.
"How was your spring break?" I ask her after taking a bite of my sandwich.
"Netflix watching." She replies.
"Sounds fun."
"Of course. What about you?" I tell her about LA and everything and she says it sounds cool. I nod and we continue to eat our lunch together.
After a regular day of just school and shit, Amber offers to drive me home. I gratefully accept since the bus is not particularly amazing.
"Has Hunter bothered you any?" I ask her as she drives.
"Like he would after you've punched him in the nose more times than he has toes."
"Well he's never been that smart." I reply and she laughs.
Amber goes onto tell me about some guy in her Spanish class who was arguing on how to say brown in Spanish with the teacher and I'm cracking up.
When she gets to my apartment building I ask if she wants to come in.
"I've gotta get home, ton of homework." She responds and I nod.
"Thanks for the ride." I say kissing her. "Love you."
"Love you too. Text me would ya?" I nod and laugh and walk out of the car. I turn around and give her a salute and I see her laugh.
I turn the key in my apartment door and step inside. "I'm home mom!" I shout though I know it doesn't really matter if I'm home or not. My mom is still a robot, she's done absolutely nothing since my dad was killed. I don't know what to do, it's like she wants to smoke and drink her life away. When I came home from LA, she didn't ask about the trip or anything, just asked for another pack of cigarettes.
I walk into her bedroom - maybe just maybe she'll care that I'm home. She's laying on her bed, eyes closed.
"Mom." I say not caring if I wake her. I know my dad's death has been hard on her, it's been hard on me too. But I'm not the parent, she is. I just wish she could wake up and process that life can move in.
