Hayes POV
Well the holiday season is over and now life sucks again. But not quite because my lips did meet Amber's 3 days ago and it was as great as I'd pictured it to be. We haven't talked much about it but I hope something comes out of it.
On the first day of school back, I take a bus to school as usual. Ugh only 3 months till spring break. And then Hunter's coming too! I walk into school and after going to mine, I head to Amber's locker because she's usually at mine. The boy should go to the locker right?
"Hello there." I say when I see her and she looks beautiful as always.
"Hey ok quickly this hoodie or this cardigan?" She says taking out two pieces of clothing out of her locker. I swear it's more like a closet.
"Hmm,hoodie." I say even though she'll look great in both of them.
"Thanks." Amber puts the hoodie over her flowy white tank top and we start to walk to homeroom.
"So speaking of hoodies..." I drag looking at Amber. "Would you like to go out with me this Friday?" I ask the one question I've wanted to ask her since we've met but I never thought she would like me. Since we kissed on Thursday, I was hoping she did. Maybe.
"Numero uno: What does that have to do with hoodies?" She smiles and I wonder what she's thinking.
"I didn't have another way to start it okay?"
"Numero dos: I woud love to go out with you Friday." I grin and she grins back.
Amber is going out with me. She actually likes me. Like maybe in that way that's more than best friends. I may be taking Hunter's position.
But I don't have money. I need to take her somewhere, but everywhere costs money. And my mom and I's stash is slowly running out since she doesn't work anymore. It's time for me to get a job.
I know no one will take me because they find other teenagers who don't have criminal records. So I head to 7-Eleven since I go there basically everyday to get my mom cigarettes. The bell rings and I see the owner, Avi, just sitting at the counter eating donuts.
"Hey Avi." I say walking up.
"Hayes, your usual?" He says going to get me a pack.
"Nah not today. I'm actually here for a job." Avi knows I'm not the best person in terms of delinquence, but I'm one of his best customers.
"A job?" He says raising his eyebrows. He gives me the once over like girls do when they first meet a guy on a blind date. "Yeah your hired."
"Wait no interview or anything?"
"Well you have muscles so you can help with deliveries, I'm assuming your smart since you have a pre calc textbook in your bag so you can work at the counter, and I like you. So you start now."
"Wait now?"
"Hayes do you want the job or not?"
"Of course I do! I was just wondering uh if I could get paid by Friday." I say wondering if that's a little too forward.
"And why Friday?" Avi raises his eyebrows.
"This girl I'm taking-"
"Say no more! Work everyday this week from 3-8 and I'll pay you Friday."
"Thanks Avi! And I mean I'll continue to work after this week I just need money for this date." I say while accepting this apron thing he hands me.
"You really like her don't you?"
I think of Amber and how she's always trusted me even when I've wronged her.
