The soft playing of a melody caught your attention as you stepped into the dimly lit house. Its just past 10 o'clock at night and you had just gotten back home after hanging out wit Dina and Jesse for the day.

Placing your keys down and removing your shoes, you make your way through the house and up the stairs, eyes glancing towards the sentimental pictures hung upon the walls of you,Ellie and Joel as you followed the quiet melody.

You made sure your footsteps were light and silent as you came up to the room in which Ellie was sitting. The door was slightly cracked open and as you glanced through the small crack a smile graced your features.

Ellie sat perched on a stool, guitar placed on her lap as she strummed the strings lightly with her fingers. The melody she was playing was beautiful, and you had recognized it to be the song that Joel had first taught her to play.

Every now and then she would hum along to the tune of the song and as time past, she eventually started to sing along.

"If I ever were to lose you. . .I'd surely lose myself." she sang softly, fingers strumming the guitar and eyes closed. You took this as a time to walk in, steps still silent as you quietly push the door open and step into the room.

As she's about to say the next line, you cut her off "Everything I have found dear, I've not found by myself."

She jumps slightly and turns to look to you, fingers still strumming the guitar while you walk up behind her and wrap your arms around her shoulders and neck. You press a kiss to her head, then quietly sing the next part.

"Try and sometimes you'll succeed to make this man of me. All my stolen missing parts I've no need for anymore."

Ellie grins and leans into your embrace before leading on where you left off.

"I believe and I believe 'cause I can see our future days, days of me and you."

She stops strumming and holds the guitar in her lap as you lean down, pressing your lips to hers in a loving kiss. You smile against her lips and press one quick peck to them before pulling back and resting your forehead upon hers.

"Hi." Ellie greets, hands gently grasping onto your arms that hang lazily over her shoulders and neck.

You giggle and close your eyes "Hi." you whisper. Ellie grins widely and repositions herself on the stool so she's now facing you, arms wrapped around your waist as yours go around her neck, eyes locked onto one another's.

You grow lost in the beautiful glow of her green orbs and find your smile widening as you leaned in for another kiss.

Ellie softly sighs against your lips and runs her thumb along your waist, gently rubbing circles into the fabric of your jeans. When you pull away you move the guitar from her lap and take its place.

You rest your head on Ellie's shoulder and trace her tattoo as the two of you sit in silence.

"I didn't expect you to be home so early."

You giggle "Babe, it's passed 10, this is normally the time I get home." Ellie's eyes go wide as she looks to you "Passed ten?. Wow, I didn't realize I was playing for so long. It felt like I was playing for 10 minutes at least."

You chuckle and shake your head, gently pushing a strand of her hair behind her ear as you started to run your hands through it.

"That's what happens when you're so invested in something. It happens to the best of us. Oh and by the way, your playing sounds amazing." Ellie blushes lightly at your compliment and a shy laugh falls past her lips.

"I'm not that good. I'm sure you're better."

You laugh and shake your head "Not at all!. You haven't heard me play, El. Trust me it's not pretty." "What?, don't say that I'm sure you're great."

"El, babe, I haven't touched a guitar since I was like, hell I don't know, eight?. I couldn't play then, I surely can't play now."

"Then let me teach you!."

"Seriously?."

She nods enthusiastically and grabs the guitar from the floor, holding it in one hand as her other arm stays wrapped around you.

"Yeah, come on I'll teach you how Joel taught me!."

You shrugged and stood from Ellie's lap before following her out of the old study and into your shared bedroom. Ellie sits on the bed and pats your side of it.

Once your sitting beside her she hands you the guitar and helps you place your fingers on the right strings.

"Okay, so the basics of a guitar are the strings, the frets and the tuning bolts. Your strings are what brings out the tune of a song. You have six strings, it goes E, A, D, G, B and E again. Your frets help make the pitch higher or lower, and the tuning bolts help you tighten the strings so they make better sounds or you can loosen them."

You nod in acknowledgement, eyes watching as Ellie pointed to the things she had named off.

"For the song I was playing earlier you need to play these strings."

She points out the needed strings and helps you placed your fingers on them "Then all you really need to do is strum the strings as you move your fingers from string to string. It's going to be a little uncomfortable at first, but the more you do it the more comfortable you'll get."

You nod and start to strum the guitar. A single tune vibrates through the string and into the guitar emitting a beautiful sound.

"Okay you got the first string, now this one." she moves a finger down to the next string and on the right fret before letting you strum again.

She nods and smiles "You got it. Now just put those two together." you do as said and play part of the tune, a smile tugging on your lips as you start to hear the songs melody.

"There see you got it!. You're not even bad." she playfully nudges your shoulder causing you to giggle "That's just two strings, El. I don't think I can switch from one string to another like you and Joel."

"You'll get it, just need to build your calluses."

You laugh and shake your head; she sounds just like Joel.

"Here, try again, I'll help you a little more if you need it." you nod and scoot closer to Ellie as you played further into the night.

By the time the sun had risen you had gotten the entire song down. But to be fair it was really only a few strings throughout the entire song so it wasn't too much of a challenge for you.

"That was fun, El. Thanks for showing me how to play." she smiles and places the guitar beside the bed before laying back and tugging you with her. You curl into her side and rest your head upon her shoulder as you nuzzle into her neck. She gently scratches your back and presses a kiss to your head.

"You show a lot of stuff to me, it's only fair that I showed you how to play guitar."

You smile and press a kiss to the exposed skin of her neck.

"You still didn't have to. All I'm saying is thank you."

"You're welcome, y/n."
