"Tell me. . . What happened here."

You stood behind Joel, eyes fixated on the floor beneath you as Ellie questioned the truth. The older man in front of you stayed silent, body swaying side to side as he thought about the consequences behind his words.

"If you lie to me one more time." she started, voice soft and calm, yet firm with each word she spoke as she stared you and Joel down.

"I'm gone. Neither of you will see me ever again. But, if you tell me the truth, I'll go back to Jackson. . . No matter what it is."

The three of you stood there in silence. You nervously toyed with the sleeve of your jacket as tears brimmed your eyes. Joel stayed silent, fighting his inner demons as Ellie continued to stare at the two of you.

"Just say it. . .Joel. .y/n."

She spoke, warning the two of you for your silence.

Taking a deep breath you step beside Joel, rather then staying behind him "Making a vaccine." he started, glancing towards you as a silent way of asking you to continue. You stay silent for a few seconds, fingers messing with the bracelet around your wrist that Ellie had given you long ago.

"would have killed you." you whispered, the first of many tears falling from your eyes and trailing down your cheeks.

"So, we stopped 'em."  Joel finishes, nervously staring into Ellie's green hues

Ellie looks between the two of you, completely dumbfounded. She takes a few steps back and sits upon a crate, hand placed upon her heart as she breaks down into tears.

"Oh my god." she whimpered, running her hand over her face as she rocked herself.

You watched as the love of your life broke into tears. It pained you to see tears trailing down her cheeks, but it hurt even more knowing you were the reason behind them.

"Ellie." you whispered brokenly as you take a step forward, placing a hand on her shoulder wanting nothing more than to comfort her. She flinches away from your hand and stands up, pushing you away from her.

"Don't fucking touch me!." she growled, brows furrowed as anger and sorrow swam in her green orbs.

You flinch as she raises the tone of her voice and drop your hand to your side. Ellie watches as you shrink into yourself, she couldn't help but frown at the sight of you being so fragile from her outburst, but what you had hidden from her caused her to feel pain she'd never felt before.

Tears trailed down her cheeks as she stared at you, a frown etched onto her face as she glanced between you and Joel.

Reaching up and behind her neck, she un-clips the necklace you had given her and throws it down to your feet. 

"We're done." she says coldly as she stares at you.

Joel glances over to you, eyes full of guilt and sorrow as he watched your trembling form bend down to grab the necklace you had given her to express your love. You sniffled and looked down to the necklace you held in your shaking hand, desperately trying to hold back the urge to cry.
