It was past 3 o'clock in the morning and Ellie had yet to fall asleep. Just a few hours ago, the two of you had been exhausted, neither one of you being able to keep your eyes open for more than a second as you were both overwhelmed with exhaustion, and although you were fast asleep once your head hit the pillow, Ellie couldn't seem to fall asleep for the life of her.

For the past hour or so she had been continuously changing sleeping positions, hoping that if she found the right one she would fall asleep, but nothing seemed to work. She was starting to get anxious and very annoyed, so, rather than staying in bed, she got out and stepped into the backyard.

Silently, she closed the backdoor and trailed into the grass covered yard. She took a seat upon the cool grass and stared up at the star covered sky, taking in deep, relaxing breaths to hopefully soothe her annoyance for not falling asleep despite the tiredness she was feeling.

The peaceful silence that was provided from the outdoors was enough to calm the young brunette down, but she still seemed to be wide awake.

After a few minutes of laying in silence, a quiet creaking of the backdoor opening could be heard. Ellie continued to stare at the stars while you quietly made your way over to her. You sat beside her and eventually laid on your back so you could cuddle into her side.

You rested your head upon her chest and she wrapped an arm around you as the two of you stared at the stars.

"What's got you up so late?." you questioned tiredly, eyes slowly falling shut at the feeling of Ellie's fingers gently brushing along your skin.

She shrugged, wordlessly replying to your question as an exasperated sigh rushed past her lips.

"Wish I knew." she muttered, still slightly annoyed at the fact that she hadn't even gotten a minute of shut eye.

You opened your eyes and looked up to her, a sympathetic smile worn upon your face as you lifted a hand to cup her cheek, thumb gently brushing along the smooth skin.

"Something on your mind?." You questioned, staring into her gorgeous green hues you've always seemed to get lost in.

She stayed silent for a few minutes, not quite sure if she should express what was on her mind. You took her silence as a 'yes' and sat up, elbow resting at a slant on the grassy ground beneath you to hold you steady as you stared at her.

"What have you been thinking about?."

She stared into your eyes, a smile subconsciously tugging at her lips as she gazed up at you. She stayed silent again for a few more seconds, brushing a strand of your hair behind your ear as she gazed up at you lovingly.

"Us." she whispered, smile growing wider as she watched you tilt your head slightly like a confused pup.

"What about us?."

"What our future would be like if the infection never happened."

You smiled at the thought of living in a non-apocalyptic world with Ellie. You had always fantasized about living with her in a normal world yourself, and you were quite surprised to know the 'big' and 'bad' Ellie also fantasized about it.

"I think it would be amazing." you spoke, resting your head back down on Ellie's chest to listen to the gentle beat of her heart.

"It would be. Anything having to do with you is amazing."

You blush and shyly chuckle, cuddling further into her side.

"What do you think our life would look like?." you questioned, gazing up at the stars as she moved her hand to your hair, gently playing with the tangled strands of your soft hair.

"Well, I can see us being married, like Tommy and Maria. Maybe we'll own a big house and a couple dogs."

"That sounds nice. It would be big enough for our family to come visit. The kitchen would be big and open, and we would have many guest bedrooms for our friends if they ever wished to stay the night!."

Ellie nodded and smiled at how excited you sounded.

"We would have a large backyard, big enough for a pool and a slide."

"Oh! And a playground!"

Ellie chuckled "A playground?." you nodded enthusiastically.

"For our kids! You want some don't you?" you questioned, resting your chin upon her chest to gaze into her eyes. She grinned widely and nodded her head.

"Maybe one or two. They would both look such like you and I would love them with every fiber in my body. I wouldn't let anything harm any of you."

You smiled and leaned forward, closing the gap between the two of you with a loving kiss, after a few seconds you had to pull back, your smile growing too wide to keep your lips pressed to hers.

"What would their names be? Do you prefer a gender?."

"Two girls. One would be named Elizabeth, Liz for short. And the other you would get to choose. They'd both have your beauty, but preferably my personality since you seem to lack in some parts."

You gasp and feign hurt, sending a light slap to her shoulder causing her to chuckle.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" she laughed, holding her hands up in surrender as you playfully glared at her.

"You better be. I for one think I have a great personality."

She smiles and leans forward, connecting your lips.

"You have the best personality, babe." she muttered against your lips, pressing one, two, three more kisses to them before resting back against the grass. You grinned happily and rested your head back onto her chest.

"Our house would be f/c." you muttered sleepily after a few moments of silence. Ellie cocked an eyebrow and looked down at your tired form. She softly chuckled and brushed her fingers through your hair.

"The house can be any color you want, n/n. As long as you're by my side, I'm fine with anything."

You yawned and moved as close as you could to her.

"Good, cause I'm dead set on a f/c house."

She laughs and closes her eyes, nuzzling into your soft hair as sleep finally started to take over.

After a few silent moments between the two of you, you and Ellie both had succumbed to sleep. The last thought lingering in Ellie's mind was the idea of painting the house you now own f/c.

The two of you may never be able to have the normal life you fantasize about, but that doesn't mean she cant make small bits and pieces of your dreams come to life.
