Raising your Heart

You think you've lived,
But it hasn't begun,
Until you'd settled down,
And found the right one

In her womb grows,
A magical life,
Your family begins,
With a child and a wife

The moment she's born,
You can't find no air,
You can only sit there,
You stop and stare,
You don't know why,
But she's your only care

Up at night,
At her every call,
Whatever she needs,
You give it all

A bottle, a burp, a rattle,
And a binky,
You change her diaper,
Cause it's wet and stinky

She's red in the face,
She screams and shouts,
Then her smile washes away,
Her awrnery pout,
And at that moment you realize, That that's what it's all about

You try to do for her,
All that you could,
To provide her a life,
Wholesome and good

Free from evils,
From mankind's wicked ways,
You teach her some morals,
And humanity stays

The best of you both,
As she buds and blooms,
Time flies by,
It really zooms

You teach her to want and wish,
And dream and pray,
To plan for the future,
But to live for the day

First day of High School,
Your baby girl strives,
She's focused and driven,
She's unchallenged she thrives

Midway through the year,
She falls off track,
You wonder what's missing,
What does she lack

You try sneakily,
To get her to talk,
But She won't say a thing,
Her lips got a lock

You remember your youth,
And you know that song,
Somebody's broke her heart,
He treated her wrong

Angered your ready to inflict,
On him an unspeakable pain,
But she comes to his rescue,
Tears fall like rain

You go to sleep and wake up in fear,
High schools over,
And college is here,
Moving far away from home,
She seems well adjusted,
But you feel alone

You grow apart,
Your baby girl matures,
You can't let her go,
She's forever yours

A man earns her love,
And takes her heart,
Your happy for her,
But you fall apart

You fear it's the end,
Your afraid she's lost gone for good,
It's was never planned for,
Though you understood,

You walk her down the aisle,
You give her away,
Your emotions are overwhelming,
Your feelings betray,

You dance with your baby,
To butterfly kisses,
It's over so fast,
Don't blink cause you'll miss this

Now It's all over,
Your job is done,
Until you find out,
Again it's begun

Your daughter is baking,
She has a bun,
Then 9 months later,
Born a grandson

You look at him,
with a twinkle in your eye,
You think of Joy's you'll share,
And the things you'll try

You remenice and remember,
The past 25 years,
And the joys and the pains,
Bring you to tears

You thank God for having,
Such a fulfilling life,
A grandson, a daughter,
And a loving wife!
