Rye's Point of View

"How was your flight?" Oscar asks us.

He just picked us up at the airport with his daughter, Noelle. I'm in the backseat with Jaden, holding his hand as tight as I can to somehow avoid the anxiety that's trying to take over me. This always happens, the first couple of minutes with Oscar are always triggering for me. No matter how great things are between us, seeing him brings me back to the past that I don't seem to ever let go.

"It was great." Jaden answers after noticing I couldn't speak to save my life.

"So I was thinking you wouldn't want to stay at your mother's house? We can go visit if you want but I don't think it's healthy to stay there. I have my own place now, you guys are welcomed to stay if you'd like or I can get a hotel for you." Oscar says and I look at Jaden not knowing what to say. I didn't know Oscar moved out of the house but it's probably for the best. That house is too big for one person anyway.

"Say something." Jaden whispers.

"I... we- can stay at mom's. I don't see the problem." I stutter. "Are you sure?" He asks and I nodded my head even though his eyes are focus on the road.

"Yeah." Jaden speaks up.

"If it makes you feel better, most of your mother's belongings are in boxes in the basement. Dad made sure it looks nice for buyers." Noelle says. I also didn't know he was selling the house... I have no saying in that, he bought it for my mom, he can easily sell it back. "And your dancing things are also in boxes. You have a lot of trophies." Noelle is so nice but my mother never let me hang out with her. Her mom and mine hated each other.

"Are you still dancing?"

Am I?

"Y-yeah, yeah- I don't work for the studio anymore but I have a couple of gigs left before I move on to something else."

"The national dance competition I told you about." Oscar says to Noelle. "Oh yeah the one were going!"

"You are?" I ask.

"Of course honey."

"They're in Florida this year, we can go to Disney World." I tell them and Noelle squeals in excitement. "Totally." I smile.

Jaden's Point of View

Rye is loosing it back here. I know she's trying to collect her feelings and act normal but I know her better than that, and I think Oscar does too.

"Can I roll the window down? I need fresh air." Rye asks, out of the blue. "Yeah sure." Oscar responded, receiving confused looks from his daughter. Noelle must think Riann is out of her mind.

Rye let go of my hand and shifted away from me to roll down the window and lean on the door. Her brown hair is brushed by the wind and she closes her eyes in relaxation. She's so precious, I had to take a picture of her.
