Jake POV
We were sitting in Shake Shack, and all I could think about was knowing more about her. So, I decided to turn it into a game. We both love sports, so I knew she would be interested in a game. Knowing I couldn't ask the important questions first, I started off with an easy one, and asked her about our sports rivalry. Chicago and St. Louis have been rivals forever, so I figured it was something fun to ask about. She laughed and suggested that we meet up for one hockey game and one baseball game every season, which was more than okay with me.
Then she asked me about Addi, which made me smile. I'm glad she wanted to know more about my little sister. Next, I asked her about her phone screen. When she had picked up her phone to show me the time, I noticed her background. It was a man and a little girl, who looked to be around six. They were dancing, and the little girl had the biggest smile on her face. I wanted to know more, so I asked who the man was.
"It's my dad," she answered, and for some reason my heart just hurt. I could tell from the way she said it something was wrong, but when I went to ask, she cut me off, asking me what my favorite thing is to do in my spare time. I quickly answered her question, wanting to get to my next one.
"What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you?" I asked, looking directly into her eyes.
"When my dad died," she answered, sounding hurt. It was the answer I was expecting, but I was still upset when she said it. How is it that she could lose someone so important to her, yet have the bubbly and vibrant personality she has? I was pulled out of my thoughts when she asked her next question, which made me flinch, but I recovered quickly hoping that she didn't notice.
I told her that I've only had one ex-girlfriend, which was the truth, but I didn't fully explain what happened to her. That was a dark time in my life, and it wasn't something I wanted to discuss in this moment.
Trying to lighten the mood, I asked her about what kind of movies she liked, and she immediately answered horror movies. My kind of girl! I was pleasantly surprised by that answer. Her next question was something about food, and my answer will always be deep-dish pizza. I consider deep-dish to be Chicago's greatest treasure.
My last question may have been the most important, and I was extremely anxious about the answer. "Alright, last question. Were you jealous when you saw the napkin?"
"What?" she answered clearly shocked.
"When you saw the number on the napkin, were you jealous?" I repeated, terrified of how she would answer. When she said yes, for some reason, I smiled. I liked that she was jealous of someone showing interest in me. Some of her answers really surprised me, but what surprised me most was her last question.
"Were you jealous when the bartender flirted with me?" she asked me. How did she even notice that? I was all the way across the bar!
"Yeah, I was. I don't know why, because I don't have a reason to be, but I was," I said, repeating her answer to her.
We headed back to the hotel, when Charlotte got responses from her friends as to what they were doing. Kyle and Aiden were watching movies with Jenny and Ashley, while Caleb was in our room with Sarah. I asked Charlotte what she wanted to do, and she let out the biggest yawn, which answered my question. I took her back up to her room, and once we were there, I finally broke the silence.
"So, I actually have a sixth question."
"And what would that be?" she asked.
"I know that tomorrow is our last full day here, but I was wondering, would you want to spend the day with me tomorrow? I promise it'll be worth it," I ranted, praying that she would say yes. When she agreed, I was ecstatic, until I realized that I had to plan an entire day in a matter of around 7 hours. Remembering Caleb and Sarah were in my room, I headed down to the lobby to start planning. Sitting in a chair, I googled fun things to do in Las Vegas, and started going through the list.
Immediately, I saw TopGolf, and because we both love sports, I went online and made us a reservation for 11:30am. Then, I continued down the list and saw ziplining on Freemont Street, which is also where the Golden Nugget hotel was. I bought us two tickets for ziplining, but I wasn't sure about the shark tank, so I decided I would wait on that. I had seen that the New York New York hotel had a roller coaster on top, and because that was close to our hotel, I figured I would save that for last. I looked up reviews and whether or not you were supposed to buy tickets beforehand. After reading the reviews, and seeing that there was a camera on the last hill of the roller coaster, I knew exactly what my plan was.
After I was done, I headed back up to my room to rest up for tomorrow. As I was walking in, I caught Sarah on her way out.
"Hey Sarah, does Charlotte like sharks?"
"Yeah, they're her favorite animal. Why?"
"No reason, thanks!" I said, smiling to myself and penciling that in for our day tomorrow.
