Jake POV
"Hey, it's okay," I whispered down at her.
"No, it's not. I ruined our last night together, and I'm so sorry. I caused all of these problems tonight, and-"
"You didn't ruin anything. The night's not over, so we could just make the most of the time we have left."
"You'd really want to hang out with me after tonight?"
"Of course I would. Charlotte, I'm not sure exactly how I feel about you, but I do know this: I don't want us to stop talking after tomorrow."
"Trust me Jake, I want to keep talking to you too, but how would that even work? We live five hours away from each other?"
Lying to her is going to be hard, but I can't fill her in completely because of the surprise. "We'll figure it out Charlotte. Please, don't think about that right now. How about we watch a movie?"
I felt her nod against my chest, so I went to my suitcase and pulled out my laptop. As I was pulling up Netflix, I looked up to see Charlotte lying in my bed. She looked exhausted, but still took the energy to look up at me and smile. I walked over to the bed and let her pick out a movie to watch. She picked Step Brothers, and I smiled to myself. Not only did I feel like a comedy would cheer both of us up, but also because this was one of my favorite movies. Charlotte placed her head on my chest, and I put my arm around her. Within twenty minutes, she was asleep. I leaned down and kissed her forehead, before turning my attention back to the movie.
I woke up to the sound of Caleb coming back into our room. "Sorry man, I didn't mean to wake you. But hey, glad to see you two made up," he said with a wink.
I glared at him, "Shut up man." I glanced down at Charlotte, seeing that she was still asleep. She looked so peaceful that I didn't want to wake her up. Unfortunately I had to, because we all leave tomorrow and she needed to go back to her room. "Charlotte," I whispered. "Charlotte," I said, shaking her shoulders lightly. She groaned and tightened her grip on my waist. Well someone is clearly not a fan of being woken up. Finally on the third try, she woke up and we headed up to her room. Once we reached the door, we both just looked at one another. Their flights left at three, and ours left at noon, so we probably wouldn't see each other tomorrow.
"Well," she said, "I guess this is goodbye."
I sighed, rubbing my temples. I hate seeing her this way, but I can't tell her. "Yeah, I guess so."
"I'm really glad I met you Jake. You made me feel something, and that hasn't happened in a while." I wondered what she meant, but I knew I would figure out soon enough.
"I'm really glad I met you too Charlotte," I said, pulling her into a tight hug, "You're one of the best people I have ever met. We'll figure this out." My chin rested on top of her head, and we just stayed like that for a while. Eventually, we pulled apart. I looked at Charlotte, and she had tears in her eyes. Suddenly, she pulled out a room key and went into her room. I sighed, and started walking towards the elevator. I know that this isn't goodbye forever, but why is it still so hard? "
Jake, wait!" I turned around, hoping to see Charlotte, but instead it was Ashley.
"I really hope this is worth it, because she's in our room sobbing."
"I promise it will be Ashley."
"Good. Because if not, I'll end you."
Charlotte POV
I got into our hotel room and immediately broke down. Why is this so hard? I just met him two days ago, this shouldn't be this hard. I know Jake and I will keep in touch, but I doubt it will be the same. It won't be the same. It'll never be as great as it is in this moment. Suddenly, I knew what I needed to do. I ran towards the door, almost running into Ashley.
She smiled at me widely, "I was hoping you'd make the right decision."
I turned and ran to the stairway, heading up to the fourth floor, hoping that I would beat the elevator. I opened the door to see Jake standing right outside his door. "Jake!" His head snapped up, and he smiled when he saw me. He started walking my direction, while I was running to him.
"Hey! Is everything okay? I didn't expect to -" I cut him off, smashing my lips into his. If this was the last time I would see him for a while, I wanted him to remember it. I took him by surprise, but he returned the kiss with just as much force. His hands went to my waist, holding me up while mine ran through his hair. He let out a moan from the back of his throat, which made me smile into the kiss. Eventually, he put me down and rested his forehead against mine.
"Well, that was one hell of a goodbye," he said, and with that, I walked to the elevator.
