Charlotte POV
I looked at the rest of the group sheepishly, knowing that I messed up. Ashley looked at me sympathetically, as did Sarah and Jenny. The guys were a different story.
"I'm so sorry," I said, tears welling up in my eyes. "I need to go fix this." I gently pushed my way through the dance floor, and up to the bar. My eyes scanned the place, but no sign of Jake. I sighed, and decided to check outside. Nope, not here either. I made my way back inside, finding the rest of the group. They all looked at me expectantly, wanting to know what happened.
"Track him," I told his friends, hoping at least one of them had his location.
Caleb pulled out his phone, looking at Jake's location. "It looks like he's heading back to the hotel. He's walking."
I sighed, "Okay. I am going to go fix this. Can you guys stay here, and I'll text you once it's all sorted out?" T
hey all nodded, and I sprinted out the door. I got into a cab, and told them to take me back to the hotel, hoping that I would beat Jake there. I looked down at my phone, seeing it was only 11:45pm. I tapped my leg in the back seat of the cab anxiously, and before I knew it we were there. I tipped the driver, and ran up to the hotel entrance. I texted Caleb asking where Jake was, and when he told me that he wasn't back yet, I leaned against a pillar waiting to see him. A few minutes later, I saw Jake walking up to the hotel. He looked like he had calmed down, but when his eyes locked with mine, that look went away.
"Jake, let me –" and before I could even finish, he walked straight past me. Well, looks like we're doing this the hard way. I followed him all the way through the lobby, and he hadn't turned around once. When he got in the elevator, I got in too. When he hit the third floor, I didn't hit the fourth floor button, because we were going to work this out. I couldn't let us end on bad terms, especially when we were both leaving tomorrow. The elevator reached the third floor, and we both got off. He pulled out his room key and opened the door. When he went inside, I stopped the door before it shut, and I followed him inside.
Once we were alone, I asked the question that I've been dying to ask: "What was that all about?" His head whipped around, an icy look took over his face.
"You're joking right? You were all over that guy!"
"Well you were flirting with that girl at the bar!" He scoffed, looking at me.
"If you would've just asked me what happened, instead of throwing a fit, I would've told you that yes, she was flirting with me and asked me to dance." When he said that, my heart kind of sunk, and my face fell. "But what I also would've told you is that I said no. I told her I was waiting for someone, and that someone just happened to be YOU! But then, I find you grinding on some stranger out of spite." He was shouting at me, and while I understood why, it was still hard to handle.
"Well guess what. Two days ago, YOU were that stranger I was dancing with! It wasn't a huge deal then. What's the difference now?" The minute I said those words, I regretted them, especially when I saw hurt flash across his features.
"I don't understand Charlotte," he sounded exhausted.
"What don't you understand?"
"I don't understand why you were dancing with that guy. I don't understand why I was so upset about it. I don't understand how I feel about you. I don't understand why I can't seem to get you off my mind, even though we only met two days ago."
I looked up at him in shock. "Well I don't get it either, Jake. I don't get why you haven't left my mind. I don't get why the day I spent with you was one of the best days of my life. I don't get why I find you so easy to talk to, even about the worst thing that's happened in my life. And I sure as hell don't get how I feel about you," I mumbled out the last part, but I know he heard me.
We both just sat there, looking at each other, both of us afraid of saying the wrong thing. Suddenly, he walked towards me and engulfed me in a hug. I sighed, and returned the hug, not planning on letting go anytime soon.
"I wish you would've just talked to me instead of jumping to conclusions."
"I wish I would have too, then I wouldn't have caused so many problems." Jake chuckled, and I felt his entire body move. "I honestly don't understand why it bothered me so much. For some reason, I trust you completely. I don't understand why I just assumed the worst," I sighed. He pulled back and looked down at me, looking me straight in the eyes and cupping my face softly.
