My Best Friend Tadashi - Yamaguchi x Reader

Chapter 16

You had been sitting in the gym watching Kageyama and Hinata practice when it happened. Hana hadn't been at school, so you were stuck by yourself, so you didn't really mind when the two first years had come up to you and asked you to watch them. You had thought it would have been better for them to ask the manager, Kiyoko, but it seemed that they were both too scared to ask her.

That's why it took you by surprise when he came in and received the ball perfectly. Hinata had been struggling to receive Kageyama's serves but then again, Hinata struggled to receive everything. Kageyama and Hinata looked over at the mysterious boy who had just received the ball in awe, and you all stared at him.

"Wait, are you shorter that me?" Hinata asked, shocked. You muffled you snort with your hand and the short boy looked at Hinata angrily.

You carefully studied the boy's features. He had tall brown hair with a blond streak in the front which added about 10cm to his height. His eyes were golden, and they seemed to gleam in the light.

Then the rest of the team entered the gym.

"No way, Nishinoya's back?"

Kiyoko walked through the door and the boy proceeded to jump on her, but she dodged him. You stared at Kiyoko with admiration, there was no doubt in your mind that she was a goddess, she even knew how to deal with Tanaka and apparently this Nishinoya guy as well it seemed.

When Nishinoya picked himself up off of the ground he finally locked onto you with his beautiful caramel eyes.

"No way, a new person!" his eyes brightened as he started to run to you but Daichi grabbed him and stopped him from attacking you. 

You smiled at the captain gratefully and he returned it with his own cheerful smile before he frowned at looked down at the boy in his grasp sternly.

"Come on Noya, you've got to greet people normally," he scolded.

"But you didn't tell me we got a new manager" he whined.

"Oh, I'm not a manager, I just like to watch practice, and nobody seems to mind, I even help out sometimes," you explained.

"Trust me, we've already asked them to be a manager, but she's always refused," Sugawara told the boy.

"When their friend comes to practice next time you'd better not act this way to them too" he reminded him.

"That depends, is her friend a girl?" Nishinoya grinned mischievously.

"That's not the point!" Sugawara gritted his teeth, clearly annoyed at the boy.

"Anyways, where's Asahi?" he asked as he looked around the gym, searching for someone.

You walked up to Yamaguchi and asked him a question. 

"Do you know who Asahi is?"

"No, I don't" he replied, looking just as baffled as you.

"Asahi is our teams ace," Daichi explained to you, "sorry Noya but he hasn't come back."

Nishinoya's face fell once he heard the news.

"If Asahi's not coming back then neither am I!" he shouted angrily and stormed out of the gym.

"Why is Asahi not coming back?" you asked the third years.

"Last year, we were in a match and every single one of his spikes got blocked, I think it lowered his confidence, and he won't come back to the team. He blames himself even though it wasn't his fault" Sugawara responded. 

"That horrible!" you gasped. The two third years looking at you with sorrowful eyes.

"Is there any way I can help? Please, I don't want the team to suffer!" you pleaded with them.

You didn't know why but you felt determined to bring the team together even if you weren't a part of it, officially.

"I don't think there is anything you can do, I'm sorry, we have to let him come back on his own" Daichi replied.

"But what if he never does?" Yamaguchi asked.

"Let's try not to think about that," Sugawara smiled sadly.

You went back to your little corner of the gym and began to sulk. Yamaguchi came over to you and crouched in front of you.

"Please don't be sad (Y/N)" he said to you.

"I'm sorry, but I can't help it Tadashi, I just want to help the team to be the best it can possibly be," you explained to him.

"I understand but try to cheer up for me a little bit, okay?" he smiled at you widely.

You smiled back at him softly, "anything for you Tadashi."

Now Yamaguchi began to blush.

"Eww, can you guys stop flirting and get back to practice?" Tsukki looked down at the two of you in disgust.

"Tsukki, its not like that!" Yamaguchi protested.

"Shut up Yamaguchi"

"Sorry Tsukki"

"You're just jealous because Hana isn't here," you muttered under your breath, Tsukki raised an eyebrow at you but didn't reply so whether he actually heard you or not was a mystery.

"Wait, did I just say that?" asked yourself but then smirked at the idea. 

"Hana and Tsukki, yeah right!" you scoffed as you turned your attention back to the practice, hugging your knees to your chest.

I didn't really remember what actually happened in this scene in the anime so I kinda made it up a little bit but its not that big of a deal, right? Also, don't you just adore Noya? I find it kinda funny because I always call him short when he's actually taller than me.
