DAYS PASSED SINCE STEVE AND Bucky were caught by HYDRA. There was no sign of Sam or Robin anywhere, and the man they encountered on the jet was not seen since then either. They did, however, meet other personnel, none of which they learned the names of, and the business end of several electric shock sticks. Whenever HYDRA agents were not around, they discussed escaped plans, and tried to keep each other sane.
Steve did everything he could to keep his best friend from falling under HYDRA hold again. It wasn't an easy task. Regardless, he kept fighting.
To their luck, SHIELD had someone on the inside that would help them. Someone, along with others, that could get them out. That person happened to be a man called Glenn. He managed to get assigned to the new prisoners, and that's when Fury contacted him. He sent over all the information he had, in case something went south, though both men were sure that wouldn't happen.
One night, when Glenn was assigned to watch over the prisoners, he made his move. Another guy he worked with would shut down the cameras for that moment, and he'd get them out.
Once he got the signal, a tapping of morse code over the walkie talkies, he unlocked the cell.
"Hey, come with me," He said in a hushed whisper, waking them up. "My name's Glenn. I'm with SHIELD," He said when he saw that they were both ready to attack.
Both super soldiers immediately relaxed and followed the dark-skinned man out the building. They went through multiple twists and turns. Eventually they ended up at a blocked off area, with a small hole on the wall. A secret passage, that's what it was. Only a few knew about it. He ushered them out, looking around. Before they could leave, he tapped Steve on the shoulder.
"Tell Robin I'll visit him soon-" He's cut off by the barrel of a gun pressed on the back of his head.
"You won't be alive to do so," A German accented voice cut him off.
Glenn froze, as did Steve and Bucky. The blonde super soldier turned to see a tall, pale man in a HYDRA jacket there, a pistol to the undercover agents head. He sported short blonde curly hair and blue eyes. He had a smirk on his face at the predicament these heroes were in.
"Adalwolf," Glenn muttered. "What are you doing?" He didn't move as he asked the question.
"SHIELD will fall, Glenn. Why fight it? Do the right thing. Don't let them escape. We could rise in the ranks, take over from Storl. We could rule over HYDRA together! Take action!" The man dubbed Adalwolf said, an evil glint in his eyes.
Steve recognized him from a time he was at a SHEILD base.
"Ben, please," Glenn pleaded, his hand going down towards his holster. "HYDRA isn't good, we know this." He paused. "What happened to Amelie?" Worry fills his voice, but not for himself. For his girlfriend and partner.
Ben Adalwolf chuckled. "The same thing that will happen to you if you don't come to your senses."
In one swift movement, Glenn pulled out his own gun. He pushed the two soldiers behind him and pointed his weapon at the man he thought was his friend. "You can't do this, Ben. You can still be a good person," He said, his voice shaking.
Ben just laughed. "Oh, Glenn. You don't know the half of it," He said, and aimed the gun at the ceiling, and fired. The bullet hit a weak point, and the entire started to shake. The blonde stepped back, smirking. "Good luck, Glenn. See you on the other side." With that, he left, and the ceiling came crumbling down.
"Run!" Glenn yelled to the two super soldiers. "Adalwolf will have alerted the others, and they'll come for you!"
"You'll be crushed!" Bucky shouted back, halfway out the door already.
"It's better than the alternative," He admitted. "Tell Robin I'm sorry, and to take care of Kiera for me," He said softly, then shoved him outside. Somehow he, a normal human, managed to push two super soldiers out the small secret entrance. "There's a quinjet waiting at the other edge of the woods. Go!" Before Steve could say anything, protest, get him out of there too, the ceiling collapsed. Only that room had been harmed.
Steve and Bucky stared at each other in shock. They didn't even know this man, and he sacrificed himself for them. Steve ran back inside and started digging through the rubble, quickly finding the dusty body of Glenn. He checked for a pulse, but nothing.
They heard the shouts and footsteps of other HYDRA agents. Bucky pulled his friend away, and they ran through the woods. They reached the other side, and sure enough, there was a quinjet waiting. Standing outside was the one and only Maria Hill.
"Any word on Robin?"
"Is Robin with you?" Both Steve and Maria asked at the same time. That gave them the answer they needed.
Not another word was spoken as they boarded the jet. The pilots, from SHIELD, took off back towards New York.
Steve was silently wondering how to break the news to Fury. Never mind Robin. He didn't know what to say, or do. So he stayed quiet, sitting next to Bucky.
Soon they were back at the Avengers Tower. Wanda immediately questioned where Robin was, but by their silence it was clear that they too didn't know. Her shoulders slumped in defeat, and she settled for sitting in her room in silence, Vision by her side.
Pietro distracted himself with his girlfriend, talking to her more than before. He probably seemed very clingy, but he didn't care.
Tony was soon alone with Steve. He groaned. "This is like chasing him around the town all over again," The billionaire grumbled, running a hand through his hair.
Steve sighed, looking down at the floor. "I haven't seen him since the plane," He said quietly. He had explained what had happened to them once Bucky was getting settled in his own room, deciding to do the talking.
"Yeah, I know."
"I'm sorry, Tony."
"Not your fault, Cap."
