Chapter Five:

"Moxie!!" Maddie wailed from the bottom if the staircase. Harry unwrapped me from his arms. I reluctantly wiped away the remaining tears and proceeded down the stairs.

Maddie's face was flushed with anger. Her hand was clamped around a rubber Barbie doll body. I tried my hardest not to allow a smile onto my face.

"What happened to your doll?" I ask, and perch myself on one of the steps.

Just as Maddie opens her mouth to explain, Mav prances by us, a Barbie doll head in his grasp. Harry's familiar chuckle sounds out, causing a contagious reaction to me. He makes his way down the stairs and plops down next to me.

Maddie is annoyed with our reaction to her dilemma. She walks away, tears spilling down her cheeks.

I wish my biggest problem was a broken Barbie doll. Something easily replaced. Instead I'm left to fend for myself. With a broken heart, trying to mend itself.

On instinct, Harry followed her to the living room. Maddie's giggles bellowed in the air. A smile formed on my face. Things were back to normal. Sort of.

*Harry's Point of View*

My keys clinked against the door to the flat. Before I could finish unlocking it, Lauren flung the door open, engulfed me in a hug and painted me with kisses.

I gave her a quick squeeze in return, and strolled inside. I really wasn't in the mood for talking. I had to decide what I would do with myself. I grabbed some crisps from the pantry and plopped down in front of the telly.

"Baby, crumbs!" Lauren whined. It's funny how I never notice that pitchiness in her tone until now.

"Sorry." I mumbled. I carefully placed a few more crisps in my mouth.

"So how was rehearsal?" She questioned. She was perched on the edge of the sofa, staring at me longingly.

"Rehearsal?" I asked. What was she talking about?

"You told me you had rehearsal." Her gaze turned into a glare.

"No, I didn't." I ran a hand through my curls.

"Well then where were you?" She asked.

"Why does it matter?" I replied.

"In less than a month, we'll be married!" She yelled. "That's why!" She grabbed an expensive looking bag and stormed out of the flat.

"Not for much longer." I said to myself.

3 am. I was laying in bed. Lauren was still out, probably eating ice cream and ranting with her best friends about how big of an asshole I am. Or whatever girls do when they're mad.

But I wasn't tossing and turning because I missed Lauren. Not because she was mad and I was swamped with guilt. But because of Moxie, and this ridiculous situation.

*FLASHBACK*

"Mrs. Yorkton! Harry took my crayons!" A younger version of Moxie cried. Maddie resembled her tremendously.

"I did not!" I butted in, crayon in hand.

Our kindergarten teacher, crouched down so she was eye level with the both of us.Her usual smiling face was distorted into a frown.
