"Hayden! Wake up!" Someone yells.
Dammit. Why?
"Noo!" I shout, groggily.
Someone hits me and I jump up. "What the hell?" I ask angrily.
My eyes adjust and I throw my arms around the person. "Oh my gosh! I haven't seen you in ages. What are you doing here?" I ask when I pull away.
"I need to talk to you, in private. It's really important." Carter says.
I nod. "Ok. Let's go upstairs." I say and I walk up with him following me.
We get to my room and I close the door behind me as Carter sits on the bed. I turn on a lamp and join him, sitting cross legged.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" I ask.
He sighs and looks at me, sadness clear in his eyes. "It's Bennett. He came over to my house & he was all determined & happy. He said he loves you & you love him back. Why would you tell him? He will be miserable because you can't be with him." Carter says staring straight at me, disappointed.
I fidget with my fingers not looking at him. "It just slipped out. He confronted me & he told me about his feelings. I got mad & I told him. I didn't mean to." I say quietly.
I fucked it all up, didn't I?
He shakes his head. "Bennett won't let this go. He's never felt this way about a girl before. It's going to ruin Mason & his friendship forever. They had a chance of forgiveness, but now it won't happen. If Bennett gets you & Mason broken up its over." Carter says & he sighs deeply.
"They're my best friends. It's not easy being the only one on his side. Patrick & Lyle still keep in touch, but Mas avoids me. He's pissed at me for standing by Bennett. But I'm his only friend right now. He needs me. I just wanted to talk to you because it's important that Mason doesn't find out. He can't." Carter states & I know from his express its extremely important.
Fuck me. Why did I do that?
"I get it. Don't worry. He'll never find out from me. I'll hide it." I say & I'm determined to do it.
He shakes his head again. "You're not the problem, Bennett is. He won't let this go. He's going to think of ways to make you his & he won't stop till it happens. I need your help. What can we do?" He asks desperately.
Oh I hadn't thought of that. Of course he won't stop. He's such a persistent guy, it'll never end.
"I can talk to him, make him promise to stay out of it." I suggest.
"No that won't work. Nothing'll stop it." Carter says and he runs a hand through his hair. "I guess we can't do anything. I was just hoping there'd be something. Something I hadn't thought of. I was so wrong. It's unavoidable." He says and he puts his head in his hands.
This is going to be bad. Really bad. Oh god when Mason finds out he'll hate Bennett & me. Oh no.
Carter looks up at me, sadly. "You better prepare yourself, Hayden. This isn't the end. It's just starting & when Mason finds out it'll be the end. Mason will blow up & anyone in his path will be obliterated. It's not looking good unless Bennett somehow has a personality change. It's hopeless." Carter says & gets up, walking to the door.
He opens it and stops, turning back to me. "Watch out Hayden. You might be the first of many victims. I don't want you to get hurt, but it's inevitable. You're a definite casualty, unless you get out right now. I'm sorry you were drug into this. I liked you. You're a nice girl. Be careful." He says & then he leaves.
