~Varian's POV~

It had been about a week ever since I started planning to ask Y/n if we could possibly be more than friends. I've asked the Royal cooks if they could whip up some chocolate strawberries. Somehow by a miracle, Rapunzel didn't find out. I do not want her to find out, she'll make a big deal out of it. But I got everything in my dads picnic basket. He told me that he use to go on picnics with my mom when they were younger. I hope mom's doing ok up there.

I start strolling to Y/n's room, swinging the picnic basket back and forth. I found Dandelion's room and knocked on the wooden door.

"Who goes there?!" Y/n panicked. I don't even want to know.

"Well, im a certain alchemist, specifically the Royal engineer of Corona. And I have a weird blue hair streak in my hair. Sound familiar?" I pipe in sarcastically. I hear a laugh on the other side of the door. You know, she has a contagious laugh. I try holding in my laughter as I saw Y/n open the door. She had a really nice pastel yellow dress on. She looked stunning.

"Well, hello Royal alchemist, to what do I owe this pleasure?" She laughs while doing a snooty voice. "Why do you have a picnic basket?"

"Oh, I was wondering if uh. Maybe you would like to go out and eat ham sandwiches? Just as friends of course." I scratched my neck. Ouch. It hurt saying that.

"Oh. Sure. But just before we go..." Y/n hesitated. She grabbed me by my gloved hand into her room. She closed the door and turned to me.

"Could you tighten my corset? I always have Faith do it, but she's on vacation." Y/n shrugged.

I-

First of all, why was she asking me to tighten her corset?!
Second of all, does she really trust me like that? That's a shocker. She doesn't even trust Eugene surprising her with a cake.

Yes, her face ended up with cake and she got some in her eye. Lets just say she has a phobia of cake now. She'll still eat it, but if someone else that isn't castle staff gives her cake, she won't eat it. It's a long story.

"A-are you sure about this?" I stuttered. I've tightened a corset before, but this is just awkward.

"Yes. I'm positive. Just pull as hard as you can. Don't hesitate."

"But what if I hurt you?!"

"I'll be fine, trust me. Plus, it's supposed to hurt. I'll let you know if it hurts too much. Now stop being a wimp, and just pull."

My hands were shaking as I reached for her corset strings, whatever they're called. I started pulling as hard as I could, but not hard enough to hit Y/n.

"You're a natural Varian! How did you learn how to do that?" The h/c haired colored girl asked. I twiddled my thumbs.

"When I was little and...when my mom was still alive, I had to tie her corsets when dad wasn't home." I chuckle. I look down at my shoes. I see another pair of shoes and felt a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry about your mom Varian. I hope she's doing ok." Y/n spoke softly. I looked up and her and smiled. She returned the gesture.

"Well...we should go now." Dandelion started pushing me out the door. I looked up at her bookshelf. I saw a painting that wasn't there before. I needed to get a closer look.

"Hey Dandelion? What's that painting up there?" I questioned. Her eyes widened and she started stuttering. I couldn't understand anything she was saying. I put the picnic basket on the marble floor and grab the ladder. I start climbing up to see the painting up close.
