Ricky

"Morning, Ricky!" Dad chirps as I walk down the stairs.

"You're awake?" I question.

"Yeah, I didn't just want a little letter on the table saying, 'Oh, I left for Denver, bye'" he chuckles. I looked tired, but I was ridiculously excited. I called Kalyani Patel last week, asking if I could visit Nini. She said it was okay, but only for the day. I was totally okay with that, I miss her so much.

"I made pancakes!" Dad says, placing a pancake on a plate and placing it on the kitchen island.

I grab the plate and sit, "Arent you visiting Nini today?" he asks.

"Yeah, that's the whole reason that I'm going." I speak with food in my mouth.

"A seven-hour drive just to see your friend for maybe just for a day. That's what I call commitment." he smiles.

"I miss her, and I don't really know if we are together or not. And I kinda wanna see if we can find out when we are there." I blush.

"Well, go change, and I'll pack waters and snacks for the ride." he smiles.

I run upstairs and throw on a white t-shirt, a red jacket, black jeans, and black Vans sneakers. I look at myself in my mirror and brush my hair. After I toss on the dog tag Nini gave me, walk downstairs, and see dad, washing an apple, and put it in a small cooler.

"You know that I can do this myself, right?" I chuckle, not in a sassy way, just asking.

"No, no, it's alright. Boss man at work said I gotta come into work today around 6:30 am. Nothing to worry about." he smiles.

"But it's Sunday, Dad. Are you sure you'll be alright?" I question, he hands me the cooler, and we walk toward the car.

"Ricky, I'll be fine. Like I always say, nothing to worry about." he asserts.

I pull out my phone from my pocket and place it in a cup holder and a water bottle in the other.

"If anything happens, anything at all, call me, alright?" Dad states.

"What if you don't answer?" I wonder.

"Then call Aunt Judy." he answers.

"Alright." I nod.

I hop into the driver's seat, and buckle in, and turn the key.

I give Dad a hug through the open window, "Be safe!" he smiles.

I start pulling out of the driveway, "Love you!" Dad yells.

"Right back at you!" I smile a toothy smile, driving off.

I turn on my GPS at a red light, "Starting a route to Youth Actors' Conservatory in Denver, Colorado." the GPS declares. I check the time, 6:10 am on the dot. I was bursting with excitement. I haven't seen her in like three months, I missed her a ton! I turn on the radio, and Harry Style's music plays. I bop to the music, still focusing on the road. Five minutes in, seven hours and fifty-one minutes to go!
