In all the chaos and celebration there were two things that stuck out to me:

"Alpha King?"

And

Sydney's eyes directed at me as if sending me a careful warning.

What the fuck was going on?

"Have you ever met an Alpha that gives himself a promotion?" I heard someone say from beside me. I turned my head, meeting Madeline. In her hands, she held a bucket of ice, resting just against her stomach.

"I'm sure Cyris isn't serious," I forced a laugh. "We haven't had an Alpha King in centuries."

"That is true. The last time was back when we had True Mates," She replied and stepped forward. Instantly, I grabbed her hand, pulling her back for a moment.

"Wait," I whispered as Cyrus continued to talk amongst his guests, "Where is this party being held?"

"Here, of course. I still have so much to do, the Alpha didn't give me any warning." She groaned.

I nodded.

"And how's your ankle?" I asked her, looking down at her black dresspants.

"Much better now, it healed after about two days." She clarified, not meeting my eyes. "And now if you'll excuse me.. I've got work to do."

I released her, stepping back as she rushed forward, into the kitchen. I watched as she closed the doors just before barking orders at the rest of the staff.

Truth be told, I was in no mood for a party.

Unbeknown to me, I was tired and lacked an appetite -- more tired than usual.

*Same girl! Let's just go upstairs and sleep.*

"Neveah!" I heard my name and I swung my head towards that direction.

Cyrus stood out with his right arm swung around Jaxon's shoulders. The two men walked over to me in unison, a little rhythm in their short stroll.

Drunk?

"Won't you join us?!" Cyrus said loudly, over the crowd.

"I'm actually a little tired.." I said sheepishly.

"Oh, bullshit! Come play with us," Jaxon teased and I mentally gagged at his words.

"Don't ever say that again," I laughed, my eyes glancing towards the staircase.

"Don't be a mood-killer! The men want to arrange a fight in the courtyard -- under the full moon." Jaxon continued, taking the bottle from Cyrus, that I hadn't even noticed, and placing it to his lips.

"I'm sure that's exciting but I --"

"Come on Nevaeh!" Jaxon pressed onwards but was silenced by Cyrus whom pushed him off. Jaxon stared up at us, a smirk on his lips before turning around.
