We decided to meet up around seven at my home. Through out the whole walk back home something was bugging me about the enigmatic experience we just experienced. I was certain that something was up, like a pit in my stomach saying something's about to happen.
It was almost seven; I was walking back and forth biting my nails with frustration like I was going to explode if I don't get the answers for the millions of question in my mind. I know, they said to let it go, but my insanely curious mind wanted answers about what happened this evening.
How something that existed a minute ago could get vanished? It all seemed so mysterious and inscrutable.
After a few minutes later the bell rang I rushed to the door and opened it- but it was none other than my mother from work. She was carrying a bundle of papers in her hands .She was a bit fat but cuddly with a pleasant look. I gave her a weird look and with a sigh I walked back to my room.
"Aren't you happy to see your mother Elizabeth?" she asked confused. I did not hear what she said. I dropped my head down with disappointment and walked towards my room.
I kept on looking at the watch. It was like the clock wasn't moving; my eyes were glued to the clock. It was almost seven-thirty yet nobody came. After another twenty minutes later the bell rang, I didn't bother to run downstairs again to see my father return from work, so I kept put.
"Liz, dear come downstairs, Theodore, Christina and Peter have come to see you" my mother called out.
I ran as fast as I can. Theo was standing there with a green envelope on his hand and Peter and Chris right beside him with a bag hanging on each of their shoulder.
"We would be staying here for the rest of the night Miss Harlow, if you don't mind" Peter said.
"Of course not dear. Consider this your own home and feel free to ask anything you want" my mother said. "And Peter, if you want some cookies do not hesitate and take as much as you want." She said and left towards the kitchen.
"Certainly, Ms. Harlow." Peter said looking at me with a big wide grin only to bug me.
"Oh, shut up." I said with mock anger.
"Okay come on guys let's move to my room" I said hurrying them up. We gathered on my bed sitting in a circle, they placed their bags on the right corner of my room.
"So, what are going to do for our last minute slumber party?" I said as I arranged all the pillows on the bed.
"Liz, we have some news." Peter said with a serious look on his face. I kept the pillows on the side and looked at him carefully.
"Okay." I said anxiously by seeing their confused yet surprised looking faces.
"When I arrived home mum handed out a letter to me saying that it was given by an old man." Theo said raising his eyes at the word old man.
"An old man?" I asked and my eyebrows twitched on hearing that.
"Yeah. Here you go." Theo said handing me the letter. "I thought it is better if we open it together."
I took the envelope from his hand. The envelope was bright green in color with a big red stamp with a symbol of a peacock surrounding with fire to seal it. I removed the seal and opened the folded paper inside it. The paper smelled like fire and ash. I grabbed it in my hand still shivering in curiosity. And I read it loud and clear for everyone to hear.
Dear Kids,
Probably lots and lots of questions might be circling through your mind already, so I would like to stop the spiraling of your mind by saying, yes whatever you just witnessed is real and not a game that your eyes were playing at you. Whatever you say was absolutely real. Read extremely carefully on this part. You are now requested to come to the Marphy street tomorrow morning ten o'clock sharp. And bring the envelope and the ring along with you as it will be the key to your next information. And I also request you not to say anything regarding this. Have a tight sleep.
