POV Meg

I can't believe Kaitlyn is here in Illinois with me. This is absolutely surreal. I haven't stopped smiling since the moment I realized what was going on. Kate keeps teasing me because it took her showing me my dog for me to finally get a clue. We went and watched the sunset, then came back to my house and watched a movie. Kasper and Kylie after the movie, so now it's just me and Kate. She was on my bed looking at her phone and I was sitting in the arm chair in the corner of my room. I wanted attention, so I jumped on top of her.

"What are you doing?!" She laughed as she tried to push me off of her. I held my ground and kept her pinned as she struggled. She finally broke my hold and knocked me onto the floor. I grabbed a pillow and started hitting her with it, laughing the entire time. We were both standing up until she pushed me onto the bed. She hit me with the pillow again, but this time she slipped on a sock and fell on top of me. I caught her and put my hand on her back, holding her. Our faces were inches apart and our big cheesy grins faded into subtle smiles. She broke eye contact and got off of me. We awkwardly laughed and pretended nothing happened. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head.

"Hey, crazy thought, but do you wanna go get tattoos?" She looked me in the eye and laughed, not realizing I was being serious.

"Wait right now? It's like 11:30 at night, are you crazy?"

I got on my phone and googled open tattoo shops near me. I showed Kate the results and she gave in.

"Get in the car or I'm leaving without you." I teased. She smiled back at me and got in the passengers seat. I grabbed her hand and stroked it with my thumb, making eye contact with her the whole time. "I'm so glad you're here. I've missed you so fucking much." She smiled back and put her hand on my neck.

"I've missed you too bub." I was getting too caught up in the moment so I looked away and began to drive.

I could feel the tension and I'm sure she probably could too. It's only about a ten minute drive from my house to the tattoo place, but I didn't want those ten minutes to be awkward, so I asked her a random question. "If you could be any animal which one would you be?"

She looked at me and laughed. "I don't know, a monkey maybe."

I turned to her with a mischievous smile. "You already look like one, Ms. Big Ears!" I teased.

Her facial expression changed and she yelled "Meg the road!" I looked forward and realized I was drifting into the left lane, but it was too late. A red semi drove past us as our car rammed into the side of its trailer. The trailer tipped and acted as a ramp. It sent our car into the air before rolling and landing on its side. The windshield shattered and we were both covered in glass. Kate was unconscious, so I took her pulse. "Please don't leave me. Please, it's not your time." She was still alive. I didn't know much, but I knew for a fact I had to get her out of there.

Fortunately, I wasn't wearing a seat belt so I had some flexibility. My side of the vehicle was touching the ground, so I couldn't get out. My phone went flying into the back when we crashed. I saw it sticking up and tried to grab it, but as I shifted to get out of my seat, I realized the engine was on fire. I checked Kate's pulse again to make sure she was still breathing. I moved her head and saw I giant cut on her temple. I took my t shirt off and held it her against the wound as I tried to reach my phone. I finally got it, but to no surprise it was broken. We didn't have much time, the fire was starting to spread to the rest of the car. I took my head and hit it against the sun roof as hard as I could until it finally broke. I had blood dripping down my face and I felt dizzy and nauseous. I fell trying to crawl out the window and a shard of glass cut my stomach open. I laid on the ground, struggling to get up. I felt my eyes begin to close and I started to pass out.

"I have... To save... Kate..." I said to myself. I was struggling to talk and my throat felt like it was being held closed. I finally made my way to the passengers side and drug Kate out of the car. Her phone was by where her feet were so I took it and dialed 911.

"It's gonna be okay, I promise." I said between sobs. I didn't think she could here me but I tried to keep her calm anyways. I laid her head on my lap and kept two fingers on her neck at all times, ensuring that she still had a pulse. Once I was sure she was stable enough, I gave up on trying to stay conscious and allowed myself to pass out.
