It was in the middle of may, no it wasn't. It was almost in the middle of may, but not really. Anyway. I walked in town at night. It was around dinner time, I thought about going to The Diner but changed my mind since I figured that's probably were they would hang out. I walked past a club, and music was playing out from the thick walls. It was live music. I recognized the voice, and I would do it even if I were dead. I opened the big doors and stepped inside. There were a lot of people dancing on the floor and on the scene four boys played a live song. It was just a cover but it was a hell of a good cover. I walked over to a crowd of people and started dancing with them. I was trying to fit in with them so they wouldn't notice me, -especially not Luke.
I danced as my eyes kept flickering to Luke, I tried to not make eyes contact and I think I succeeded. Then there was a man coming over to me and started dancing. I pushed him off me but he kept on coming closer. His hands touching my waist and I kept pulling his hands off me but he just continued.
"Stop!" I shouted over the music.
He ignored me and gave me a gross smirk. "Get off me!" I shouted again. His hands slid lower down my waist, down to my hips. Further down to the hem of my jeans. I pushed his hands away, -I tried anyway- but they kept going closer to my butt. He put them on my butt and I screamed. "Get the FUCK off me!" I started screaming even more. When eyes turned our way the man put his hands in the air and backed away. I sank to the floor, gripping my hair as I breathed through my teeth. I couldn't cry. I kept groaning even though he wasn't touching me. I couldn't hear the music anymore, but I didn't want to open my eyes. I felt hands on my shoulders and I turned around and slapped them off of me before I saw who it was. Luke was standing over me, he looked down at me. I couldn't quite see his expression because of the darkness.
I messed up again. I messed up their concert, he will never forgive me. He hates me now.
"Hope?" he said, his voice breaking a little.
"No. No. I'm so sorry, this is a mistake. I'm a mistake." I said. I looked up at him, shaking my head. Then I stood up and started walking to the exit. Luke ran after me and caught up.
"Hope. How are you?" he asked.
I kept on shaking my head. "This is a mistake, I'm a mistake." I repeated.
"No, what are you talking about?" he said, his voice was calm.
Mine wasn't. "Luke you don't understand, I shouldn't have come here." I told him.
"Hope. Hope." he said, gesturing with his hands for me to calm down. "C'mon." And then we just left everyone like that. We walked over to a black car, and he pulled out some keys from his pocket and unlocked it. I sat in the passenger seat, not saying anything. He must have gotten his license.
"Nice car, huh?" he asked. He sat down on the drivers' side. Put the keys in and rolled out of the parking lot. "I got my license. Which I think you already figured out." he talked like old Luke, like when we were still friends. We drove in silence then, all the way to our destination. And when we got there I recognized it pretty well. It was the pre-school playground. He parked the car and got out. I opened my door by myself before he could reach to my side. I jumped out and we walked in through the gate. We sat down on the swings. After awhile he spoke up. "What is it?" he asked calmly.
I didn't answer first. I didn't know what to say, but then I said something that I knew was true but wasn't the actual reason. "My mom and dad are going through a divorce." I said.
He nodded. "They're tough."
I nodded my head in respond. "I know how you feel." he said then.
No you don't. I thought to myself.
