Chapter 6 - Lilith

Ava and I come back inside from playing and I look down at my jeans, grass stains covering them. Ava starts running towards the dining hall and Vincent and I quickly follow her.

Sitting in our seats, I pull my phone out from my pocket and go through my notifications. I see a message from Lydia and quickly open it, seeing the message that says 'ClubHigh tonight? or see u leaving me again?'

I bit down on my lip before looking over at Riot who's already looking at me. He pulls the phone out of my hands and reads the message.

"She's such a bitch. Do you want to go?" he asks, turning my phone off and giving it back to me.

"Do you? You said you wanted to go too." I remind him as Ava pulls on my shirt sleeve so I can get her what she wants.

I quickly serve her the food she wants and myself before looking back at Riot.

"We can go. I'll assign Vincent to Ava while we're gone." Riot says before he turns to Rome and starts talking in another language.

"Bunny, where are you going?" Ava asks and I look at her.

"Don't worry, I'm not leaving while you're awake, and I'll be back before you wake up. You're not missing anytime with me, I promise." I say sticking out my pinky thumb.

She wraps her tiny little pinky around mine and then let's go to finish eating. After she's done, I finish eating and pick up our plates so we can go give them to Adrian.

"Say goodnight, Ava." I say and watch as she runs up to Rome and Riot before saying goodnight.

She quickly runs back to me and we start making our way down the hall when I feel someone behind me. I turn around to see Vincent catching up to us.

"Sorry you have to stay up all night to watch her. I'll try to be quick, promise." I say as I watch Ava turn towards the kitchen doors.

"It's okay, Bunny. I like Ava, she's sweet." he says and I laugh at the nickname.

"Adrian! We're here!" Ava says as she knocks on the door.

A couple seconds passes as we wait, and Adrian finally opens the door before taking the dishes from my hands.

"My sweet girls have visited me again! And just as I remembered, here you go!" he says, pulling out two gelato containers and spoons he kept behind his back.

Ava and I squeal as we take them, before saying our thanks.  Adrian smiles as he shuts the door, doing whatever it is he does.

"Bunny, open mine." Ava says so I squat down and open it for her.

We've eaten all of ours by the time we reach the room and open the door, leaving Vincent to stand right outside it. I quickly bath and dress Ava, making sure to brush her hair before opening the door and putting her into her own bed.

I run my fingers through her hair, waiting for her to fall asleep.

"Bunny, sing me a song. I'm too bored to go to sleep." Ava asks as she opens her eyes again.

"Okay. What do you want to hear?" I ask.

"Your favorite song, any song. I promise I'll go to sleep afterwards.

"Okay, close your eyes." I say and she does.

"Why do you build me up, buttercup baby just to let me down. And mess me around, and then worst of all, you never call baby, when you say you will. Yet I love you still, I need more than anyone darling. Know that I hide from the stars, build me up, buttercup don't break my heart." I sing and watch as her chest slowly rises, and her mouth parts.
