Walking down the basement stairs, I could smell the scent of decay. Rocco would've been the last of his bloodline, leaving me with all the power he lost. But, his daughter changed all that today by simply being with him.

He knew he was going to die today, which is why he thought sacrificing the only heir to his throne was going to work. I'm not going to kill a child, and I'm sure as hell not going to marry her.

I can keep her alive, wait for her to get older, and marry her off to another mafia for power. Killing her would only give me the power I can so easily achieve. The only problem is I don't have time to raise a child and run a mafia at the same time.

Children are a liability, unable to defend themselves and others against the dangers that come with this world. Kind of like the girl upstairs.

I only took her because the cops were coming, and though I have them on my payroll, it wouldn't look good for me to have a gun in a club full of dead people. Even though it was my club.

Just by looking at her I could tell she was too innocent for this world. Her soft facial features, the way she risked her life over someone she didn't even know. She has no role in this world.

I'll just have to kill her when I go back up. But for now, it's time to kill Rocco.  I hear his sniffles when I get close to him, and I laugh.

"How much a coward you would have to be to try and sacrifice your own daughter. As if I wasn't the one to kill your wife years ago." I say as I push his hair back so he's laying flat on the ground.

"Too bad it's not going to work. As I kill you I'm taking your power. I've wiped out your entire bloodline, leaving a little girl in charge of a mafia. Matter of fact, taking your mafia makes the Italian mafia yet again, the most powerful mafia in the world." I say as I pull my gun out of my pants.

"No, please! Ava is still young she's not going to understand-" he pleads, but it's not going to make a difference.

I take the safety off and shoot the bullet right between his eyebrows.

"Clean this up." I say as I tuck the gun back into the band of the pants.

Now I have to go deal with the girl upstairs.

Making my way out of the basement and into the main house, I start walking to the living room they were in. Vincent knew better than to let them out of the room.

Nearing it, I can hear some movie playing, most likely a children's movie. Walking into the room I see the girl and the child laying down. The child was on her chest, about to fall off before the girl quickly stretched her arm out and caught her before wrapping her arms around the child's torso.

I look at Vincent who's holding the folder I asked him to get. It's the background check for the girl, who we figured out is named Lilith Sinclair because her 'best friend' wouldn't shut up.

I open the folder to see her driver's license, passport, and identification card. She's 21, works at a vegan cafe, and volunteers at animal shelters. I roll my eyes as I read this, who has time to do this shit.

I look through her history, which shows she was in the foster care system at 10 months, to which she stayed until she was 18, after the state saw her parents as 'unstable'. She's an only child, and knows nothing about her family.

The only friends listed here are Lydia, her boss, and her boss's husband. "Vince, this is it?" I ask as I see there's only a couple pages in here.

"Yes, boss. Seems like she's pretty ordinary." He shrugs as he looks back at the sleeping child and girl.

I put my hand out for Avas' file, which Vincent quickly put in my hand.  She was definitely Rocco's daughter, we already had that tested. She was to be in second grade this year, making her 6. She was a pretty little girl, and her head would cost me if I did kill her. I can take money and power now, or take it later and make more.

I close the file, hand them to Vincent, and go to stand in front of the girls. "Lilith, Ava." I say, but neither of them budge.

I pull Ava out of Lilith's arms, knowing it's going to wake her up.

She quickly opens her eyes and pulls the child back into her. Ava starts to cry, but Lilith starts to pat her back and it makes her go back to sleep. It had to be around 4 in the morning. That's when the idea comes to me. I can kill Lilith, or I can make her be a nanny to Ava. Either way, I'm making money.

If she can nanny Ava, I have a reason to keep both of them alive. If not, I still make money. I look at Lilith to see she's already watching me, waiting for me to say something. She's still in her dress which is wrinkled from her sitting down. I pull out my gun and put in on her temple before she has time to react.

When she tries pulling away, I wrap my hand around her neck. It wasn't too tight, but tight enough to the point where she knew I could easily kill her.

"What do you want from me? I didn't do anything, please, just let me go." she says as tears start to water her eyes.

"You're not leaving. You can either die right now, or you can nanny Ava until she's old enough to marry off. If you decline, I'll kill you. If you fuck up while nannying Ava, i'll kill you. Either way there's a chance of you dying." I say and I could tell she was starting to panic.

"I can't stay, I already have a job, and my cat. I can't leave the people I already have in my life." she says as she looks down.

"So I can either go to your boss, kill her and her husband, or you can put in your two week notice and let them live. It's up to you. Your 'best friend' already has the address of the cafe." I say, waiting to see her reaction.

She looks around for a couple minutes, I could tell she's running the idea through her head.

"But what about my cat? I cant leave him." she says as she runs her hand through Avas hair.

"The cat cannot come here. We have dobermans surrounding the house." I say and she looks down.

"Your best friend however, is leaving. She made the deal of you or her, and she chose herself. She saw nothing, no murders, nothing illegal. Even if she does go to the cops they'll tell me and i'll have a reason to blow her brains out. I'm sure she'll take care of your cat." I say and I could tell this upset her.

"Why would she leave me?" she asks and she looks down as a tear runs down her face.

"She's smart. She knew you weren't leaving anyways, so she snitched on you and took her chance." I say pushing her head up so I can see her eyes.

A couple minutes passed before she spoke again.

"Okay. But I don't want to be trapped here all the time. We have to be able to go places." she says before looking down to see if Avas is still sleeping.

She was an easy girl to manipulate, and her friend knew that. I knew she wouldn't leave the child, even if she had just met her.

"Perfect, your room and Ava's room will be right next to each other. One of the maids will come down here to help you." I say, finally releasing her throat, and standing up.

Vincent goes to get a maid, leaving me alone with her. I look at the girls as Ava wakes up and Lilith tries to put her back to sleep.

"Lily, why are you crying? What's wrong?" she asks as she runs her little hands over Liliths face.

"Nothing Ava, the movie just made me really sad." she says as she laughs and starts patting Avas back so she can go back to sleep.

Vincent returns with the maid, and Lilith gets up still holding Ava. She pulls her dress down to cover her exposed thighs, and starts walking. When she walks past me I can tell she smells like Vanilla and I look back at her. She had a fat ass.

I lick my lips and follow them out the room, and we part paths as we go down two different hallways.
