Chapter 30: Josh and Vernal

Raven's camp

Josh is looking at a picture of himself and Pyrrha on his scroll and he remembers something that Pyrrha said

Flashback

On the dormitory rooftop

Josh: do you remember about where my team and I came from before coming here?

Pyrrha: yes, was it Garreg Mach Academy?

Josh: that's the one.

He then shows her a picture of the Academy and the monastery

Pyrrha: it looks beautiful, I wish I would go and see it.

Josh: That's a great goal, love.

Pyrrha: Is there anything I need to know once it's been achieved?

He thinks and remembers about a certain duo

Josh: there is.

Pyrrha: and what is that?

Josh: not a what. A who.

Pyrrha: ok. Who?

Josh: Lorenz and Sylvain.

Pyrrha: Why?

Josh: Because that Sylvain can be a flirter and Lorenz can be the same as well as he can be obnoxious

Pyrrha: oh then, I'll try to avoid them. And I'll let you know if they do try to hit on me.

Josh: thanks, dear.

The two share a kiss

Flashback ends

Tears fell on the screen

Josh: (clearing his eyes) so much for that goal.

Voice: what goal?

He was startled by his mother

Josh: ah. Mum!

Raven: sorry for scaring you, Josh.

Josh:it's fine. What can i do for you?

Raven: Vernal wants to meet you.

Josh: Fran mentioned her before, after training.

She chuckles

Raven: come, Josh. I'll introduce you to her.

Josh: ok you're the boss, Mum.

They head towards Raven's tent and are greeted by a short haired girl

Girl: afternoon, Raven.

Raven: hi Vernal.

Vernal: is this your son?

Raven: yes he is, Vernal.

Josh keeps quiet looking lost

Raven: Josh?

Josh: huh?

Raven: are you ok?

Josh: yeah, just thinking.

Raven: Vernal, can you boil the kettle?

Vernal: sure thing, Raven.

he turns to his mother

Josh: I'll answer your question.

Raven: (looking confused) what question?

Josh: about the goal that i said before.

Raven: oh that goal.

They go into her tent

While Vernal was pouring tea into two cups and made hot chocolate for Josh

Josh: you remember when I had a girlfriend before right?

Raven: the same one who was killed by Cinder?

Josh: please don't say her name.

Vernal: Why?

Josh: (turning to Vernal) ever since she killed Pyrrha. I've hated her!

Raven: ok.

Josh: we've made a promise that I would show her around Garreg mach.

Vernal: how about you could show me around this Garreg Mach?

Raven: that's a great idea.

Josh: i don't know, Vernal.

Vernal: (drinks from her tea) why not?

Before he said anything else Fran came into the tent

Fran: Raven!

Raven: what is it?

Fran: Grimm.

She stands up and gets her mask

Raven: Josh. Show Vernal that you know how you can handle in a fight.

He gets his sword

Josh: will do, mum.

They joined the others in fighting the grimm until a Beowulf hits Vernal

Josh: Vernal!

He slices it in half and offers her a hand. Which she takes

Vernal: thanks.

Afterwards

Raven: that's taken care of the grimm.

Josh puts his sword away when Vernal turned up beside him

Vernal: i know that you don't want to be another relationship again but how about we start by being friends?

Josh: i would like that, Vernal.

And with that they started to become friends.
