55. Lies Unleashed

A Year Later

Narrator's POV

The sun was shining brightly in the sky. There were a few clouds but that did not stop the weather from being pleasant. A girl was walking down the street with a bag on her shoulder and a tired face. She had short purple hair making her look like a boy. She was on her way to a hospital to visit someone. That someone was none other than her mother.

It took less than five minutes to reach the hospital as her mother had been moved to a hospital near her house. The hospital staff knew her very well by now. She went down the same corridor she had been going through for nearly a year. She stepped into the same elevator and made her way to the same room while greeting the same people she saw every day. And as usual, she kept her barely living hope alive when she walked into the room, pretending to be happy for her mother's sake.

It had been almost a year since her mother who had been shot near her heart had fallen into a coma. There was brain activity but apparently not enough for her to wake up. When she was shot, the bullet went through her lungs. She lost quite a lot of blood. The surgeons were not sure if she would make it out of the surgery alive.

They tried to take out the bullet but couldn't because of the extensive damage. They packed her up and kept her in the ICU hoping for her to get through 24 hours. Everyone thought she wouldn't make it. But her mother proved them wrong and got through barely but alive. The next day her bullet was removed. But her heart couldn't bear the stress and pressure of the surgery. She coded thrice on the table but still made it out alive.

Even the surgeons though she was a miracle. The next few days, she was recovering well but hadn't woken up yet. The doctors said it was normal. But once the few days turned into weeks, they took her for scans and tests wherein they found that she had an aneurysm in her head which was pressing against her brain.

It would be difficult to operate and there was only one neurosurgeon who would agree to do so. It was their luck that the doctor who agreed to do the surgery was Dr. Derek Shepherd. Dr. Shepherd worked at Seoul Grace Hospital. The hospital where her mother was. Dr. Shepherd came the moment he was notified. He explained the risks of the surgery to the girl as soon as he saw the scans, as her mother had to be taken into surgery immediately.

She watched as the nurses prepped her mother and rolled her away into the OR. She wondered if she made the right decision. Dr. Shepherd had told her that her mother might fall into a coma, but the chances of that happening were less than 5%. Her mother being the miracle she was, took the 5% and fell into a coma.

There were many cases wherein the patients who would have fallen into coma would come out. No matter how long. The longest one had been about 3 years. Those cases gave her hope to fight for her mother.

She sat down on the chair beside her mother and did what she had been doing for the past year. She talked to her mother about everything that had happened in the whole day.

From what she ate to whom she talked to, until the nurse came in and asked her to leave just like every day, for the visiting hours were over. She smiled at the nurse and kissed her mother on her forehead before leaving.

BTS just arrived home. They were making a comeback. They just released a new single English track and were busy with the interviews and practices and other things. They had to wake up around 5 in the morning and came back late at night around 11 or 12.

Everyone went to get changed before coming down for dinner. All of them were half asleep and could barely keep their eyes open. Suddenly they smelled something. Something so nice that they immediately looked around.
