Chapter 28

"I guess it won't be a fling anymore because I'm asking her to be my girlfriend." He said blankly.

I looked back at him as I felt a slight pain in my heart, "I hope she says yes," I gave a sad smile and turned back towards the door, "I want you to be happy."

Present:

Ashley's POV

Tessa had held the door open and I stepped through. I didn't even bother to look back at Payton as I heard his steps follow me inside.

Without turning around I said to him, "At least take her somewhere other than my house to ask her." I walked into the living room with Tessa where everyone else was waiting. I plastered a fake smile across my face in hopes of cheering everyone else up.

I don't know why I bothered to try to cheer other people up when I was the one in the most pain, but it felt like something I had to do. I felt like if I made everyone else feel okay then maybe I could feel okay again.

I sat down on the couch next to Angelica and Tessa sat besides me. Cole was sitting in a separate chair. It was technically "my dad's chair" but Cole always sat there when he came over. Brent was on the other side of Angelica, and Serenity was next to Tessa but there was extra space left for another person. After a couple seconds Payton walked into the room and took the open seat. He leaned towards Serenity and whispered something in her ear. She nodded and they both stood up.

"We're gonna dip for now and go somewhere else, see ya guys," Payton said as he stood. Everyone muttered their "okay"s.

I lifted my head and we made eye contact for a second before we quickly looked away. The two of them walked out of the room and shortly after we heard the front door open and close.

"That bitch," Tessa muttered.

"She didn't do anything," I snapped, "You guys need to stop! You're making it worse! She didn't even do anything wrong, I told Payton it was over. He's allowed to like other girls!" I furrowed my eyebrows at the group.

They went quiet.

"We didn't want him to hurt you..." Lily looked down.

"He already did," I mumbled.

"But that's not serenity's fault." I continued. 

"You're right." Cole said blankly.

"Okay, let's not be fucking rainclouds," I said trying to brighten the mood as I stood up from the couch.

"We should go outside for once we always hang out here." I added.

"That's a good idea," Cole stood up and smiled slightly with me.

Soon everyone was standing up and we went back to our usual positive vibe.

"We should go to the beach!" Lily yelled in excitement.

"We'd have to borrow swimsuits though," Tessa said looking at me and Angelica.

"Yeah you guys can take some of mine," I laughed.

"Me and Brent can just go in our shorts?" Cole said more like a question turning his attention towards Brent.

"Yeah, that'll work," Brent responded.

I laughed and walked upstairs into my room, Tessa and Lily following closely behind. I walked over to my wardrobe and started going through my swimsuits when I picked one up. It was the swimsuit that I wore the night I went to the beach with Payton. The pink coverup that I wore with it was bunched up next to where the swim suit was sitting in my drawer.
