"Bethan? Wake up it's beach day." The familiar voice said slumping at the end of my bed. Shooting up dramatically, I looked over at the blonde who was sat in her Tiffany blue bikini and an oversized dark grey checked shirt. Looking judgmental over her large black sunglasses she had resting on her nose, she laughed hitting my feet out from under the blanket so I was sat up straight next to her.
Staring into the emptiness of the room flashed with sunlight, I shook my head in an attempt to wake up. "What time is it?" I asked leaning against her shoulder, avoiding getting my morning breath near her.
"Half past 10." She nods, running her hands through my hair in an attempt to flatten it out. "And you hadn't called so I thought it was best to come and get you." I smile but stand up and stretch as I begun to shuffle through the draw of swimming costumes I had been accumulating over the previous weeks of shopping online and with the girls at the local mall.
"Do I go ribbed yellow or green?" I asked holding up two of the new bikinis for her judgement.
Looking at both in confusion she points at the yellow and then stands up and walks towards my door. "And put on a white jumper, I'd imagine it will feel freezing later on." She says shutting the door on me so I can get changed.
Getting ready as quickly as possible, I slid on some flip flops and skipped down the stairs and met Leighton who was sat next to Timmy on the bar stools. "Ready to go Mr Ducky?" He said squeezing the poor rubber duck. Looking confused I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge.
Timmy jumped off of the bar stool and moved around the table to reveal he was in fact wearing a rubber ring around his waist and his dinosaur trunks. "Oh yeah and because I couldn't resist I invited my new bestie aka Timmy to come with us." Smiling with what I pictured many emotions laid across my face, Dad entered the kitchen still wearing his pyjamas.
"Don't worry I'll come and get him later but he wanted to dig sandcastles for Mr Ducky." He said shaking his hands in mild confusion, give me a look with his eyes that says 'just go along with it.'
"Fine. Have you had breakfast or are we stopping somewhere on the way for you?" I look down at Timmy who is now putting on his matching green crocs.
"I had toast." He said simply, smiling over at Leighton who is eating a crust on the small plate sat in the empty seat next to her. Picking up his bucket from outside the door by the pool he stood up ready, looking at me with excitement and impatience.
"Okay then, let's go." I smiled, walking towards the door.
"Come on everyone!" Milly shouted from the front of the the jeep, clearly getting rather impatient from the hold up. Jumping in the back with Timmy I clipped his seat belt on and then followed with my own.
"Where's Gracie?" I asked as Milly pulled away from my house. Leighton was already connected to the blue tooth and began playing some music if never heard of before.
Pointing aimlessly in a direction she huffed, "oh she lives down the same road as Ginger Sam so just makes sense is she gets picked up by Mitchell." She waves as Leighton wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.
Lowering my voice and moving forward and away from the ears of Timmy, I asked, "are they like, a thing?" Bursting our laughing, Leighton made me and Milly jump out of our skin.
"You must've been blind to not notice." She said, still slightly laughing at my oblivious self. "Well they are trying to keep it a secret but I can see through that girl like the white swimming costume she'll no doubt be wearing today." She sighed.
Milly got Leighton's hand as she tried to turn the indicator on to pull into the lane for Starbucks, but proceeded to do it herself anyway. "They're keeping it a secret from me. They don't want it upset our friendship." Milly mocked as she pulled round the drive through. "I do appreciate it though, it must be difficult. But I'm sure that if anything goes wrong I'm beating the person's as-" she stops, mindful of the youthful eats in the back.
"You get what I mean." She says, tutting as she pulls up to the speaker to order. "Does our special guest want anything?" I turn towards Timmy who's already looking at me with his puppy dog eyes so I nodded, handing my card to the front.
"He will have an iced water with strawberries and you can choose mine. Put it all on this, my treat." I say before Milly does the order for us all.
After receiving our drinks from a lovely girl with violet hair, we all made our way to the beach as the sun started beaming through the windows and souring the temperatures.
Making sure to apply another layer of suncream to Timmy before running out of the car and onto the beach. With it being a sunny Saturday I was expecting a lot more people to be there than there was. With it being a more private and tucked away meant there was mainly groups of young people and surfers. Spotting the black SUV and Mitchell's car park not so far away, I helped Timmy out of the jeep and set off down to the sea.
"Hey Bethan!" Gracie shouted as we turned the corner to find her laying, in her white bikini on a towel surrounded by bags and a cool box filled with cans of fizzy drinks. "Wow who's the cool dude with the duck?" She shouts, sitting up from her tanning position.
"This is Timmy, my little brother." High-fiving each other, they automatically started digging for gold and became best friends. Gracie's childish side thrived in that moment and she loved every second of paddling and digging with him.
Taking a seat on my own towel I looked around as the sun beat down onto my skin. "Where are the boys?" I asked, clearly only caring about the location of one of them.
Looking towards the high waves left over from the storm yesterday Gracie turned from her position of smacking a sand bucket to roll her eyes. "They were straight to the surf as soon as they got out the car."
"Well, well, well. Look who finally rolled out of bed." Not noticing the sarcastic boy come closer and blocking out the sun from his standing position.
Pulling my hand above my eyes to avoid me squinting as I look towards him, his smirk was clear as his eyes fluttered over me. "Can you move? You're blocking my sun." I say as I sit up, attempting to crunch my stomach so it doesn't do the annoying roll thing as I sit up.
"Sorry your majesty." He said squatting down so the light flooded back over me. I tried to avoid flicking my eyes to his tan body and to keep contacting with his eyes that matched the ocean. He was wearing a wet suit with his arms and torso rolled out of it and his hair was wet and had began to curl at the edges. "You read for your surf lesson?"
He winked, throwing his hand out to help me get up.
