Jesse pov:

I sighed slowly as my hair blew gently in the wind. A couple months had passed since Genesis wreaked havoc on the rest of my town and afterwards she was out of our hair.

I glanced over my shoulder, gazing at Olivia who was huddled up against Axel as she slept peacefully. Fortunately, she wasn't killed during our last battle and was brought back to us by Elaine safely.

Although, we lost so much during this war and it wasn't even over. Lukas was gone so the team wasn't the same anymore. I struggled to move on from him, matter of fact I couldn't move on from my love.  I glanced over to Sylvia who was tossing around a lot as she slept, her messy hair brushed against her shoulders. I felt bad for Sylvia as she lost more than me and understandably she hasn't been the same since. She also suffered day and night due to the constant reminder that Genesis was apart of her. She confided in me about it one day and she said when Genesis told her it was her turn that she suffered like never before. She struggled to keep her thoughts and actions in check, but she promised me that she wouldn't act impulsively for my sake and she's kept her word from day one and I'm proud of her for that.

I glance back into the distance, watching wearily as snowflakes silently fluttered down.

Well... for us fighting was out of the picture, but for Genesis she never stopped gaining more and more power unfortunately.  Fortunately for us though, Jane... well technically Nathan's gang now constantly updated us on what was going on in the world.

According to Nathan, many people had risen against Genesis during these past few months and they all failed miserably. She completely wiped out those who attacked her, sharing no mercy whatsoever and simply killing them off with ease. She left them as an example for the rest of world to see and no one dared to rebel against her since then.

Genesis eventually claimed all the lands for herself, but she didn't stop there. She cruelly punished anyone who dared to stand up against her and made sure her authority was never questioned. Everyone except for Genesis was suffering and boy were people  afraid of her too.

All the gang could do was really nothing because if we intervened that was a suicide mission for all of us. We learned that Genesis couldn't be stopped.. and the green necklace ended up giving her more power.

I clenched my fists and grit my teeth as I recalled using the necklace against her. Unbeknownst, I had only gave her more power in the end and I know that was what the megalomaniac wanted too. The necklace had gave her more power and I remember what Sylvia had told me one day.

"She knew she would absorb the power from that necklace, so she put that thought in your head," Sylvia said curtly, "It's not you fault though Jesse," She pauses and puts a hand on my shoulder while gazing at me sternly, "It's mine."  For whatever reason she blamed herself, but when I refuted that claim the symbols on her arms glowed for a moment and briskly she walked away.

I got up from where I was sitting and walked over to the small fire that appeared like it was going to go out at any moment now. The gang and I were basically nomads now, as we were always on the run in order to maintain our safety. There was no telling what Genesis was up to and we were always on the move because you never knew what could happen.

I sat across from Ivor who was gazing into the flames intently as he held a small cup of steaming tea in his hands.

I glanced down for a moment and huffed quietly.

"You seem distressed."

Petra sat down beside me, leaning forward. I glance up at her meeting her shimmering brown eyes.

"What's up Jesse?" Petra asks as Ivor gazes at me.

"It's nothing," I say quickly.

"Jesse," Ivor says gruffly as he strokes his beard, "Burying what's wrong will only make the dilemma unfavorable for you."

Ivor then sips his tea slowly.

I sigh heavily and avoid their gazes.

"Look... Genesis has stolen everything from us and I'm tired of sitting around watching people suffer," I say helplessly, "We're supposed to be hero's."

Ivor and Petra pondered deeply for a few minutes as I glanced back at the fire.

"Jesse I'm sorry to break this to you, but we can't do anything about that. If you do anything you know you'll get the rest of us killed," Petra said earnestly.

"Petra's correct... Jesse you will just have to adapt to our current circumstances," Ivor says, lowering his cup of tea, "It's unfortunate, but Genesis is way too powerful."

"I don't want it to end like this," I say, clenching my teeth afterwards.

"You think your the only one," Petra says rather fiercely, "None of us wanted it to."

"...Their just has to be something we can do to stop her," I say slowly, "She can't be able to beat everyone right guys?"

"Well... what can we do?" Ivor said, "You heard Alana.. no one can stop Genesis."

"No one even knows the source of her power for crying out loud!" Petra exclaims.

"Shush," Ivor said quickly, scolding Petra, "Don't wake everyone else up being so noisy. Alas, she has beaten everyone already Jesse... she outsmarted us all."

Petra huffs faintly and crosses her arms over her chest, "It's just not fair that she can have all the power in the world like that at her fingertips."

"Yeah well," I say, "We can't do anything about it."

Ivor nods briefly and Petra sighs quietly.

"I can't believe this is actually over," Petra said as she shook her head.

"Nor can I," Ivor says as he glances down sorrowfully.

No one could believe it themselves and the bitter taste of failure stung us deeply. The world once a peaceful place was under Genesis' control and us the hero's couldn't do a thing about it. I hated this... I hated this with every fiber in my body, but this was it and it was game over.

Genesis had won and I made a mistake that cost lives that could never be replaced. The heavy weight of that decision will be forever on my shoulders and I can never redeem my mistake.

This was our defeat and Genesis had beaten us all.

Can't believe it myself, but we finally reached the end of this story.

The good guys were defeated and theirs no coming back from that.

I'll be writing some one-shot's about the story and most likely posting them in this book.

Hopefully you enjoyed reading the story because I definitely enjoyed writing this. It's been a long journey and I'm very happy with how the wither sickness series turned out, but this is it. Our hero's journey is actually over.
