It was getting harder to breathe. The Doctor was cursing and shouting in the other room. He kept sending me these distraught glances, knowing time was ticking away.
During school, the World War II was a big subject to talk over. I had always thought of Hitler's cruelty to the Jews as something more than cynical, something that made me sick at the thought. The gas chambers were the worst, in my opinion.
Suffocating would be the worst way to to, I had decided.
And now I was running out of air.
"Done!" The Doctor exclaimed happily, turning to the Daleks.
"Now let her out!" He said angrily.
"Scarlet Smith recognizes as enemy to Daleks. Doctor recognizes as enemy to the Daleks. Both of you will be exterminated." One Dalek threatened.
"You said we could leave!" The Doctor shouted angrily. I struggled to my feet, going to the glass.
The Doctor stalked over to the door, shouted for me to get back, and stuck something into the control panel of the door. It started smoking and the door opened. I sucked in cool oxygen and fell into the Doctor's arms.
"You have damaged Dalek property. Prepare to be exterminated." It turned towards us.
"You said you'd let us go! Now let us out!" The Doctor yelled.
"You have nowhere to go. This ends now." I imagined them powering up their guns as try whirred to life, aiming for me when bang. The Dalek's head was gone.
The other three were reduced to similar states.
"Jack!" The Doctor cried happily. I noticed the man behind the smoking Daleks, holding a large gun.
"I never thought I'd be glad to see you, quite honestly." The Doctor said. Jack was incredibly handsome, with dark hair and a strong jawbone. He tossed the gun aside.
"Hello." He smiled. I started to respond in equal when the Doctor made a sound.
"Don't you dare start flirting." He muttered.
"I was saying hello!" He argued.
"Yeah, and for you, that's flirting!" He exclaimed.
"It's alright, Doctor. I'm Scarlet." I introduced myself.
"Oh, you're the infamous Scarlet. I've heard quite a lot about you." He kissed my hand and I couldn't help but to smile.
"Are you two done?" He snapped. Jack smiled back, mostly enjoying annoying the Doctor.
"Captain Jack Harkness." He added.
"You're not even a real captain!" The Doctor complained.
"Technically, you're not a real Doctor." Jack pointed out.
"There's still a lot you need to explain to me." I said to him, momentarily abandoning the idea of Jack.
"All in good time. Right now I need to know what a single Dalek ship is going in the middle of London and why nobody had noticed." The Doctor started messing with buttons on the ship.
"It's got a perception field on it. Refuse to notice it." Jack leaned against the wall of glass.
"How'd you get up here?" I asked.
"Vortex Manipulator. Travel, just without a vessel." He answered.
"And how'd you know we were here?" The Doctor continued. Jack coughed like he wasn't wanting to go there.
"History changed. No Doctor, no Scarlet. And this was the place that you died. Well, this was the date that you died. I locked onto the TARDIS's coordinates and figured you'd be in the giant ship above head." He answered.
"So we were almost really killed?" I swallowed. No one answered me, leaving me to feel sick to my stomach.
"Is this your first day?" Jack asked. I nodded weakly.
"You're taking this surprisingly well." He commented, looking into my eyes.
"Um, thank you?" I said.
"Exterminate!" I heard.
"There's another Dalek?" Jack jerked towards the sound, going for his gun. I saw the streak of blue and only felt a moment of pain before there was a solid and resounding... Nothing.
