It was torture to see her in pain, Alastor wanted to help in any way he could. Charlie smiled weakly as the medical staff worked. She was so strong, he thought. He was still confused as to how she had been revived, but he was grateful beyond belief she had.
"Your Highness, could you please fold your wings in? And take a deep breath." Charlie nodded and her angelic wings disappeared. She breathed in, then out.
"Okay. We can move you to a normal room for now, it's recommended that you stay until it heals entirely. We don't want to run the risk of an infection, especially in your fragile state." The doctor examined her wounds one last time, seemingly checking for any errors.
Alastor stood, still clasping Charlie's hand. "How long will it take to heal?" "At least a week. Not to worry, we have the best medical team ready to assist her in every way possible." The doctor pulled down her mask and ruffled her black hair. "Mister Alastor, how did all of this happen, if you mind me asking?"
"Not at all. I had some matters I had neglected to attend to, and thus we paid the price. Fortunately, our dear Princess is stronger than any obstacle, even death itself." He looked fondly over Charlie. "Yeah, she's a fighter alright. With injuries like those I'm surprised she didn't...um..."
Alastor gave her a warning stare. He didn't want any mention of how she could have died, it only hurt when the topic was surfaced. "Ahem. Right. Let's move her to a room so she can rest. And I noticed her blood sugar was extremely low, do you happen to know the last time she ate?"
"At least a day ago, if I'm not mistaken." The doctor nodded as she prepared to move Charlie's bed. "When she's had some rest, we'll bring her something to eat. In the meantime, you can sit with her if you'd like." Alastor expressed his approval.
When the doctor finally found a vacant room, she set the bed up and hooked her to the machines. "Ehm...are all of those completely necessary?" Alastor was afraid an attack could happen again, leaving her trapped in machinery.
"Don't worry. Each piece can be easily removed in case of emergency, if that is what you are implying." The demon let out a short, relieved sigh.
The doctor bid them farewell, leaving the two alone. Alastor was the first to speak.
"Charlie, you gave me a heart attack today." He sat beside her and held her hands. "Promise me one thing: that you will never, EVER, jump into a fight you cannot win. If you had to break all but one, I am begging you to choose this promise."
