Alastor felt numb with despair. He watched as Monster let her now disembodied head topple to the floor without a hint of remorse. "H...how..." Was all he could sputter out. Falling to his knees, the demon felt a flood of tears escape.

He had always thought of love as weakness. It was truer than ever before, the loss hit him harder than any blow he could deal.

Alastor no longer cared about Monster, he could do as he wished. The entity had done the worst it could have ever possibly done. What a fool he had been, such a damn fool...

"My work here is done. Now you can sit here, crying like a baby, or you could walk out that door knowing you're free of that pri-" Monster was cut off by Alastor gripping his ankle. Pulling with as much force as he could muster, he pinned the being.

The demon savagely beat him with his fists until they grew sore, then he continued despite his aching. "YOU TOOK EVERYTHING! MY LIFE, MY PRIDE, MY LOVE!" He screamed as he hammered into the shadow's head and chest. "YOU DROVE ME INSANE SO YOU COULD HAVE A LAUGH! YOU LIED TO ME! YOU TORE ME APART WITH EVERY CRIME YOU FORCED ME TO COMMIT IN ORDER TO KEEP MY HEAD!"

"YOU TOOK CHARLIE! YOU GREEDY, LOATHSOME BASTARD!" The being was clearly unconscious, but Alastor let his fury drive his fists harder. Taking the final swing, he collapsed and sobbed. "Charlie...you took Charlie..." His cries echoed throughout the spacious broadcast room.

How had he forgotten? He was enraged with himself for letting it slip through the cracks. It happened every time, this was bound to be no different. Every love he had made had ended up dead in his arms, him admitting defeat and starting the cycle again.

This twisted, evil cycle was his punishment.

'Alastor, hey,' Hope's voice interrupted his thoughts. 'Don't give up yet. Go to her.' Alastor was too miserable to argue, he shuffled to his love's broken body. He heard sobs from the other demons, but he tuned them out as he focused on Charlie.

Wiping a tear with his glove, he gently took her small body in his arms. She was still warm, barely dead at all. Wait...

Alastor heard a low heartbeat coming from the princess's chest. Dumbfounded, he watched her once lifeless corpse rise and become whole. Charlie's wings spread to her sides elegantly, before flopping down as she took her first breath.
